History and Philosophy

The Boston College Campus School was founded in 1970 to provide special education and related services to students with severe multiple disabilities who were not being served in their own community school programs, and as a training site for university students. The program provides student centered, educational, therapeutic, and health care services in a school based setting to promote student growth in a stimulating environment using challenging instruction tailored to the needs of the individual. An integrated service delivery model is emphasized to address the full range of student needs across all environments, maximizing opportunities for carryover of all student goals and objectives throughout the day. A curriculum guide designed by program staff is used to ensure that all students are provided with relevant and effective learning opportunities as well as access to the general education curriculum. The program benefits from the contributions of university students who volunteer and bring their energy and enthusiasm into the school setting. The Campus School Volunteers of Boston College (CSVBC) is an organization of university students dedicated to working with and for the Campus School.
