Scholarship Applications that we receive in print form or are not available through an online platform will be made available at the MTHS Student Services website under Seniors, then the Scholarship Updates tab.

LOOK FOR SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES AT COLLEGE/UNIVERSITY WEB SITES:

1)Check out scholarship opportunities at UNC public universities and plan to meet application deadlines for scholarship eligibility or separate application processes; 2) Many NC private colleges/universities off scholarship opportunities if applicants meet GPA/SAT or ACT levels; 3) Many out-of-state universities offer scholarships based on GPA/SAT or ACT and meeting early action application deadlines that significantly reduce overall cost

ROTC PROGRAMS-The Reserve Officers Training Corp is a college program offered at over 1,700 colleges and universities across the US that prepares young adults to become officers in the US Military. In exchange for a paid college education and guaranteed post-college career, cadets commit to service in the military after graduation. At training/rotc, you will find Army ROTC, Marine and Navy ROTC and Air Force Rotary details and application processes.

MOUNT TABOR PTSA SCHOLARSHIPS-Join the PTSA by February 1, 2021 to be eligible for $500-$1,000 ACADEMIC, ARTS & ATHLETIC scholarships. Scholarship applications will be available in January. Join the MT PTSA---find Mount Tabor PTSA on the website, then click on Purchase PTSA Membership Only

NORTH CAROLINA TEACHING FELLOWS PROGRAM

ELON UNIVERSITY, MEREDITH COLLEGE, NORTH CAROLNA STATE UNIVERSITY, UNIVERSITY OF NORTH CAROLINA AT CHAPEL HILL, &

UNIVERSITY OF NORTH CAROLINA AT CHARLOTTE

Criteria: The purpose of this program is to recruit, prepare, and support students residing in or attending institutions of higher education located in North Carolina to become highly effective STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics) or special education teachers in the State’s public schools

Awards: $4,125 per semester for 8 semesters, renewable annually (forgiveable loan program based on employment in NC public school)

MASJID AL-MU’MINUN OF WINSTON-SALEM EDUCATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS

Criteria: High School seniors with GPA of 2.5 or higher and financial need to attend a university/college

Awards: Five $500 scholarships

Deadline: March 5, 2021 (Turn in all completed parts of the application to MTHS School Counseling Office by the deadline---your transcript and attendance report will be included)

ROBERT E. ANDERSON HUMAN RELATIONS AWARD STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP (FORSYTH COUNTY ASSOCIATION OF EDUCATORS)

Criteria: FCAE will recognize a young adult for his/her contribution to the betterment of humanity; the student must exemplify “hands on” participation in an act of humanitarian nature toward an individual or a group of individuals; the student should be an advocate for others, kind, benevolent and respectful to others; the student must be an immediate family member of a current FCAE member (ie. Child, Grandchild, Step)

Award: $1,000 scholarship

Deadline: February 1, 2021 (Turn in all completed parts of the application to MTHS School Counseling Office by February 1-your transcript will be included and application delivered to the FCAE office)

FAMILY MATTERS SCHOLARSHIP (THE NU RHO CHAPTER OF ALPHA KAPPA ALPHA SORORITY, INCORPORATED)

Criteria: Black or African-American female students with a minimum weighted GPA of 3.0 and planning to start college at a 4-year college/university in Fall 2021

Award: $1,000 scholarship

Deadline: January 29, 2021 (check in with Mr. Huck or your counselor if you have questions)

STATE EMPLOYMENT CREDIT UNION PEOPLE HELPING PEOPLE SCHOLARSHIP

Criteria: ONE MTHS SENIOR WILL RECEIVE THIS SCHOLARSHIP!!!!

Senior at a NC public high school and SECU member or eligible for membership through parent/guardian; United States citizen , a resident of NC, and eligible for in-state tuition; accepted to attend one of the 16 UNC system universities as a full-time undergraduate; demonstrated scholastic achievement with a 2.6 or higher unweighted GPA; demonstrated leadership, excellence of character, integrity, and community involvement; must file the FAFSA as part of the application

Award: $10,000 scholarship ($1,250 per semester over four years)

Deadline: February 15, 2021 to MTHS School Counseling Center (send application form as a Word Document to Mr. Huck; deliver other parts of the application to the MTHS School Counseling Center)

FLORENCE KIDDER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP (NATIONAL SOCIETY OF THE COLONIAL DAMES OF AMERICA IN NORTH CAROLINA)

Criteria: North Carolina high school seniors who will attend any North Carolina college or university; recipients selected based on the merit of an essay on the following topic: A Glimpse Into History: Please choose and describe a historical structure in or near your county that was built pr9ior to the 20th century. Imagine a time capsule was buried there during the building of the structure and discovered today. What kind of artifacts or writings were left in the capsule that would give us information about the area when the capsule was created? What hopes and ideals from that period in time would the creators of the capsule like us to know about?

Awards: First Place-$3,000; Second Place-$1,000; Third Place-$800….and three Fourth Places-$4,000 (some local chapters offer additional scholarships)

CHAMPION SCHOLARSHIP (LEWIS AND KELLER ATTORNEYS AT LAW)

Criteria: Students who have been accepted/plan to attend a 2 or 4-year college or university in North Carolina and minimum 3.0 GPA; Essay: In 500-750 words tell us about a cause you strive to be a champion for and how you plan to make a positive impact for that cause.

Award: Two $1,000 scholarships

SILVER PEN WRITING COMPETITION (HOMESTEAD HILLS RESTIREMENT COMMUNITY in WINSTON-SALEM)

Criteria: All high school seniors who live or attend school with 25 miles of Homestead Hills; no GPA requirement; write a 1000 word essay on the following topic: There are many people who can be influential to an individuals’ life whether they be someone in history or known personally to that individual. If you could have a conversation with anyone, living or deceased, who would it be and why? What would you discuss?

Awards 1st Place=$2,500; 2nd Place=$750; 3rd Place=$500

AUBREY LEE BROOKS SCHOLARSHIP

Criteria: Excellent academic achievement, financial need, community service/work experience, and leadership; applicants must be planning to attend North Carolina State University, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, or the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (FAFSA completion required)----some applicants will be selected for a regional interview in early spring

NORTH CAROLINA SCHOLARSHIP FOR CHILDREN OF WARTIME VETERANS

Criteria: Funds provide college support to help children of certain disabled, deceased, combat or POW/MIA veterans; students may be eligible for a scholarship if veteran parent was a resident of North Carolina when he or she entered military service

JACKIE ROBINSON FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP

Criteria: Minority high school seniors who plan to attend four-year colleges/universities, show leadership potential, demonstrate a dedication to community service, and present evidence of financial need; minimum SAT score of 1,000 or a composite score of 21 on the ACT

Awards: 54 scholarships were awarded last year

PEARL BERLIN SCHOLARSHIP

Criteria: Graduating high school senior and resident of Forsyth, Guilford, Rockingham, Randolph or Alamance County, NC; self-identified lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer or straight ally; must have demonstrated service or a desire to serve the LGBTQ community

Award(s): Amount awarded up to $3,000 (multiple scholarships of $1,000 or single scholarship of $3,000)

THE NATIONAL MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS SOCIETY’S SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

Criteria: Provides scholarships to anyone with multiple sclerosis, or anyone who is the child of some with multiple sclerosis, who will be attending an accredited postsecondary school for the first time.

Awards: Range from $1,000 to $3,000, although a limited number may exceed this amount

Criteria: Senior member of Allegacy Federal Credit Union at one of Allegacy’s partner high schools (Mount Tabor included); students will complete a Everfi playlist from the Allegacy website and create a 2-3 minute video

Awards: $1,500 first place; $1,000 second place, and $500 third place

JOSH GRAY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

Criteria: Mount Tabor seniors who are members of the girls or boys soccer teams and demonstrate strong character and leadership skills, extraordinary team spirit, concern for others, a positive and encouraging attitude toward teammates, and a genuine lover for soccer; academic promise and financial need also considered

Award: $1,000

EDWARD KENT WELCH MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

Criteria: Mount Tabor seniors who are accepted to and plan to attend the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and demonstrate academic promise, evidence of strong moral character, genuine concern for others, and school and/or community leadership

Award: $500

Deadline: all seniors who plan to attend UNC-Chapel Hill are considered in early May 2020; recipient announced at Senior Awards Day

RUBIN FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP

Criteria: Mount Tabor High School seniors who will pursue a degree at a UNC system school; minimum cumulative 3.0 unweighted GPA; minority students who will be first in immediate family to attend college; demonstrate financial need

Award: Four consecutive years of undergraduate tuition and fees

Deadline: March 15, 2021 (complete Winston-Salem Foundation one-stop application)

LARRY SCHREI BER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

Criteria: Forsyth County high school senior, intending to play sports in college, minimum unweighted GPA of 2.5 (preference will be given to applicants from Mount Tabor High School and R.J. Reynolds High School: demonstrated financial need, academic performance, good character, and strong work ethic will be considered

Larry Schreiber was a longtime Winston-Salem business leader and served as president of the Mount Tabor HS athletic booster club and as a Pop Warner football coach. Mr. Schreiber’s children who attended Mount Tabor and RJR have set up this memorial scholarship in his name

APIA (ASIAN PACIFIC ISLANDER AMERICANS) SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

Criteria: Asian and/or Pacific Islander ethnicity as defined by the U.S. Census, citizen, national, or legal permanent resident of the US, minimum GPA of 2.7, and must apply for financial aid using the FAFSA

Awards: Scholarships arrange from one-time $2,500 awards to multi-year $20,000 awards

Deadline: January 14, 2021

Criteria: African-American high school seniors who will make significant contributions to society; applicants must excel academically, exhibit exemplary leadership potential, participate in community service activities and demonstrate financial need
