Lenovo N22 or N23 not able to see Comcast Router

Problem: Families with Comcast internet service and who have Lenovo N22 or N23 models given to them by their schools may not see their internet connection as an available network from those laptops. This issue is caused by a combination of type of physical NIC on the laptops and the possibly default configuration of the Comcast router.

Solution: The way to resolve the issue is to access the internal configuration web page for the router (by default at 10.0.0.1) and change a setting for the 2.4 GHz antenna band. Please note that this change can not be made from the account settings portal.

The possibly default setting is to use the 802.11 g/n/ax protocols, but the "ax" portion blocks the N22 and N23 models NIC from even seeing the router. So, the change needs to be made to use the 802.11 g/n protocols only for the 2.4 GHz signal. The settings page will look like this:

If the parent knows their UID and pass you can (if you wish) walk them through this change; however if they do not, they will need to contact Xfinity support to assist them with "Changing the protocols on the 2.4 GHz signal from 802.11 g/n/ax to only 802.11 g/n". Hopefully giving them that verbiage will prevent Comcast's support from directing them back to you to correct the issue.

As soon as this change is saved the network appears for the effected wireless NICs, meaning there does not seem to be any reboot of the router (and temporary loss of internet) needed.
