You will have an integral role in the evaluation and underwriting of complex potential new commercial loan opportunities and for monitoring loans in the existing portfolio, as well as mentoring less experienced team members. Key Responsibilities: Collect and evaluate due diligence materials and market data for commercial real estate related finance opportunities.Manage, communicate with and coordinate services provided by third party professionals and consultants, including Borrowers, Lawyers, Appraisers & Engineers.Perform Credit Risk assessment of opportunities:Assess borrower & sponsor strength and weaknesses.Perform financial modelling using property level data including appraisals, project costs and profitability, to determine key metrics used in the Credit Risk assessment.Perform sensitivity analysis using key metrics.Evaluate property competitive positioning through comparable rents and sales, absorption, growth, market trends and demographics.Evaluate collateral strength using property conditions assessments and environmental reports and other reports. Identify and mitigate key credit risks.Prepare loan draw requests for approved loans and construction advances.Lead Funding Meetings.Liaise with internal staff, including the Loan Origination Team, Credit Committee, Commercial Mortgage Funding, Loan Accounting, and other key stakeholders.Determine appropriate market comparables for property valuation and complete site inspections and inspection reviews of comparable properties, when required.Monitor loans in the existing loan portfolio and assist in renewals and repayments.Mentor Analysts and Associates, Credit Risk & Underwriting and provide constructive feedback to foster development.Participate in the development and delivery of training material for the Credit Risk & Underwriting Team.Make recommendations for continuous improvement of the Credit Risk & Underwriting Team, to simplify processes and improve productivity. Act as a key team member within process improvement teams. Maintain knowledge of best practices and developments within the commercial mortgage lending industry.Embrace organizational change and role model change readiness to the Credit Risk & Underwriting team.Qualifications and experience:You have an Undergraduate Degree in Commerce or Business Administration, with a Major in Urban Land Economics/Real Estate (with land law), Finance or equivalent qualifications and a minimum of 4 years of related work experience in the real estate lending industry with an established network of industry contacts. You have a Mortgage Broker License, or will obtain one within you first 9 months of employment.
