SUMMARY

The position of the Credit Manager is responsible for performing duties and support functions related to the commercial and agricultural underwriting. Primary duty is to underwrite the commercial and agricultural portfolio of the bank, under the guidelines of Commercial Loan Policy and directions set forth by the Credit Officer. Will gather and analyze all information necessary to present a financing request to senior management or loan committee for approval. Will maintain and periodically request information to update all files and records pertaining to the existing commercial and agriculture portfolio. Will liaison with other departments regarding lending activities. Will prepare reports for Sr. Management regarding the loan portfolio and will handle other duties as directed by management.

Assures compliance with all Bank policies and procedures, as well as, all applicable state and federal banking regulations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Perform pre-qualification assessment and analysis of financial condition and risk of financing requests within framework of Bank credit culture and current economic and industry trends.

Analyzes all information necessary to present a financing request for proper underwriting

Analyze information and/or documentation from customers so that a proper underwriting of relationship can be done.

Assign Risk Rating.

Document and analyze financial and other relevant information.

Interpret/analyze financial information to determine strengths and weaknesses of credit facility and must be able to communicate such analysis in an oral and written basis.

Must effectively communicate with the lender and/or customer’s accountant (both in writing and orally) with respect to questions regarding financial information and customers operations.

Effectively communicate results of analysis in a written loan presentation/review for Senior Credit Officer approval

Co-present when requested with Loan officer presentation/review for loan committee or Sr. management

Effectively answer all relevant questions with regards to presentations.

Represents Sauk Valley Bank in various community, civic, and community reinvestment functions to further enhance the Bank’s image and develop additional business.

Periodic training with Documentations Specialist in order to have a thorough knowledge of documentation

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

The position of Credit Manager is responsible for the supervision of Credit Analyst.

ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL ACTIVITY

The environment for this position is an open office that is mostly clean and comfortable, where exposure to the outside weather elements and some minor annoyances such as noise, odors, drafts, etc. may occur. The incumbent is in a non-confined office-type setting in which he or she is free to move about at will.

The incumbent in the course of performing this position spends time writing, typing, speaking, listening, lifting (up to 25 pounds), driving, seeing (such as close, color and peripheral vision, depth perception and adjusted focus), sitting, pulling, walking, standing, and reaching.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

These specifications are general guidelines based on the minimum experience normally considered essential to the satisfactory performance of this position. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required to perform the position in a satisfactory manner. Individual abilities may result in some deviation from these guidelines.

Bachelor’s degree in Finance/Accounting/Mathematics; five years’ experience and/or training; or the equivalent combination of education and experience. Work related experience should consist of credit analysis or underwriting. Educational experience, through formal school or financial industry related curriculum, should be business or financial industry related.

Advanced experience, knowledge and training in commercial activities, terminology and products and services relating to and commercial account customers, knowledge or life experience in agriculture and/or farming a definite plus

Advanced knowledge of related state and federal banking compliance regulations, and other Bank operational policies

Advanced computer skills to meet production needs of the position

Intermediate to advance knowledge of accounting/finance concepts, ability to consolidate and interpret financial statements

Effective oral, written and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to apply common sense to carry out instructions, interpret documents, understand procedures, write reports and correspondence, and speak clearly to customers and employees

Ability to deal with difficult problems involving multiple facets and variables in non-standardized situations

Effective organizational and time management skills

Ability to work with minimal supervision while performing duties

Current driver’s license and a vehicle with appropriate insurance coverage if required to drive in the course of performing assigned duties and responsibilities.

The incumbent must be able to perform this position safely, without endangering the health or safety to him/herself or others.
