Job Description

Job Title: Community Educator

Programs: Prevention Services

Status: Full-time or Part-Time is up to 20 hours per week

Reports To: Prevention Services Program Coordinator

Prepared Date: 10/2014

This person is responsible for delivering effective and timely service as specified in and required by the guidelines of all the programs within Positive Alternatives as needed.

I. CASE MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES

▪ Serve as facilitator/mediator of parent and family interactions during program delivery.

▪ Documentation of client interactions, participation level, and other program related happenings into client tracking system.

▪ The organization, filing, and confidential record keeping of associated clientele.

▪ Maintaining consistent communication with clientele and scheduling of programs.

▪ Abide by the requirements of confidentiality and mandated reporting.

▪ Track, document, and interpret program and client data associated with appropriate tracking systems.

II. COORDINATION AND FACILITATION RESPONSIBILITIES

▪ Preparation, coordination, and facilitation of group materials and resources (Strengthening Families Program, Sandcastles Divorce Seminar, Afterschool Programs, and any other programs associated with Community Education position)

▪ Coordination and evaluation of program staff, Americorps Volunteers, and other volunteers to effectively deliver services.

▪ Send reminders to community agencies prior to scheduled presentation.

▪ Establish and maintain effective community relationships.

▪ Create program awareness in communities served.

▪ Attend all trainings related to programmatic needs and personal/professional development.

▪ Locate and schedule trainings for program staff.

III. TEAM / AGENCY RESPONSIBILITIES

▪ Conduct educational seminars for staff, youth, and community.

▪ Regularly attend required program and agency meetings

▪ Maintain ongoing contact with other counselors for the purpose of collaboration efforts related to shared clients.

▪ Attend all required agency trainings and gatherings

▪ Any other duties delegated by the Program Coordinator.

▪ Assist with agency fundraisers as assigned.

VI. FUNDS DEVELOPMENT

▪ Maintain current fundraising projects for Community Education.

▪ Research, monitor, establish, and maintain program contracts with current contractors as well as the establishment of new contracts.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Full Time - The minimum requirement is a Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Human Services or related field with experience working with adolescents and/or families.

Part Time – The minimum requirement is experience working with adolescents and/or families while on course to the completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services or related field.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Employee must be 21 years of age or older. Possession of a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, auto insurance, and a driving record free from major violations for the past five years is required.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk and/or hear. The employee must occasionally lift 25 pounds. WORK ENVIRONMENT

HOURS

The hours are flexible to accommodate client’s schedules. Night and weekend hours are required. Part-time is up to 20 hrs/wk. Full-time is up to 40 hrs/wk.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Employees in this position are At-Will Employees. The Introductory Period is a minimum of six months. Employees will be evaluated upon completion of the Introductory Period and annually thereafter. Employees are asked to give a 30-day written notice prior to termination in order to leave the agency in “good standing.”

Full-time - eligible for Tier II benefits, which include a $400/mo stipend that can be used for flex-spending, retirement options, and/or a taxable cash option. Also included are earned personal and vacation time as well as paid holidays.

Part-time – Paid holidays.
