BRT AG & Turf

March- April 2018

Plans are still being made for Spring planting and we were just given another opportunity. BRT was approached by a company that needs 3,000 acres of a few specific non-gmo soybean varieties grown for this year. The varieties are 1.5 thru 2.3 maturities but they move south very well. They are high yielding varieties with no yield drag. Premium is $1 over the CBOT. Seed price is $30/unit paid upon delivery or $28 prepaid in March. Seed treatment is available also.

If you have not ordered your seed for Spring planting there is still time.

We have a good selection of non-gmo beans (from 1.5-3.8 maturity) and corn available at excellent prices. Call us to get an order in place.

Tissue Testing

A new service that we will offer. We will be trying to take leaf samples on corn and beans from V3-V5 and then at bloom in beans and just prior to tasseling in corn. These tests will allow us to see what nutrients are deficient in the plants and make foliar or dry broadcast applications to correct deficiencies and maximize yield. The cost will depend on travel time and number of samples taken. Call us to get on the list.

If you are holding old crop beans please let us know so we can help you move them. We are continuing to work on non-gmo yellow corn markets so if we get any good programs we will let you know.

We have three markets for new crop non-gmo beans. Please call us to discuss your options and make your bean crop profitable again. There is savings on seed and a nice premium on the grain. This all adds up to $80-$100/acre advantage over the traited beans.

New Grain Markets

New Products:

Gro-Coat…….. This is a dry seed treatment that is a combination of Talc, graphite, and micronutrients that is resulting in plants with increased root mass and improved yields. This product can be used on any crop and it can be added to your soybean seed treatment. By using this product you will not need to add talc or graphite to your planter boxes. Cost is $3/acre.

Mainstay Si………… This is a foliar that improves cell wall strength, increases leaf thickness, and gets you more yield. Iowa corn strip tests in 2017 showed an average of a 30 bushel increase. This product improves disease tolerance and standability as well. The rate is 1 pint/acre and the cost is under $8/acre.

BRT Aminos………. Here is a brand new product to the U.S. It is a plant based natural amino acid package that can be added to starters, strip till blends, or used as a foliar. Amino acids are needed in the plant to produce protein which in turn improves the photosynthetic efficiency of the plant and reduces stress. Cost is $3-$5/acre depending on rate.

BRT Humates………We now have a very high quality soluble Humate that is being used in starters, strip-till mixes, nitrogen applications, and foliars. In general we are using about one pound per acre. The in season price is $8/lb. This humate is showing terrific results in medium to light ground that may normally have drought stress and it is also doing well in heavier ground where there is compaction problems. Humates will increase your biological activity which will increase nutrient availability to your crop. Your fertilizer rates can be reduced and the root size of your plants will increase dramatically. If you have a system that can apply these it may be the best return for your money.

As always, give us a call on any of your needs and have a safe Spring!

Glyphosate

We are encouraging all of our growers to minimize their glyphosate applications. Glyphosate SHOULD NOT be used for a burndown in any fields that non-gmo soybeans are being grown in and then are coming into Heartland Crush after harvest. Our meal and oil are certified to be Glyphosate Free and we need to keep it that way. Much of the grain that you are producing is going into feed or food so eventually we are consuming that glyphosate. Many of our serious health problems can be traced back to glyphosate so please use it as your last option for weed control.
