Assignment 3: 10%; Due Nov. 15, 2012

Topic: Writing Formal reports

This assignment is an exercise in writing formal reports. Please refer to “Chapter 11: Writing and Completing Reports and Proposals” and select one of the short report topics listed below:

1. A report on advertising limitation on cell phones (i.e. not enough screen space), present details and potential solutions

2. Prepare a report on the rapid increase in the cost of getting higher education and its long term negative effects

3. Getting a degree in Computer science: a cost vs. benefit report

4. A report to convince angel investors to invest in your entrepreneurial idea presented in assignment#2

Upon selecting one of the topics above, complete a formal report similar to the one printed on pages 143-156 (a scanned copy of this sample report is posted on the class website). While your report does not have to be as long as this sample report, it must include all the covered parts. That is:

➢ Title page (page 143)

➢ Letter of Transmittal (page 144)

➢ Table of Contents (page 145-top)

➢ List of Illustrations (page 145-bottom)

➢ Executive summary (page 146)

➢ Body of the report (pages 147-154)

➢ Conclusion and Recommendations (page 155)

➢ Work cited and References (page 156).

Please consider the following points when preparing and submitting this report:

➢ The report body should not be less than 3 pages long, no maximum limit. All other report parts must be presented similar to the sample report.

➢ You can make up data appropriate to your topic similar to the that are listed on pages 166-168

➢ Use single-space, fonts 10 or 11, print on single side of paper (i.e. Formal reports should NOT be printed double-sided)

➢ Please provide references if data, text or diagrams from external sources are used

➢ Please e-mail an electronic copy of this assignment by 11:00 AM on the due date to the class GTA (jacob.mcclenny@uta.edu)
