Daily Work: Practice is essential for learning how to touch-type and mastering computer applications. Tutorials, typing documents, emailing assignments, note-taking, etc.

Homework: Worksheets, study guides, blog comments, etc.

Tests and Projects: Tests will be fill-in/multiple choice/matching/short-essay or performance based. Projects can also be time-consuming documents. Rubrics will be provided for projects.

Cheating: Cheating on a test, quiz, or assignment is considered by the District to be a serious breach of conduct. The student will be penalized with the policy that is written in the EMS student handbook. The teacher will make notification with the parent/guardian of the reason for the action. This incident will be discussed with the academic administrator as required.

The following actions are considered to be cheating:

1. Using unauthorized materials on a test.

2. Receiving unauthorized information on a test.

3. Knowingly giving information in a test situation.

4. The passing of definite questions or answers to someone who has not taken the test.

5. The turning in of work for credit that is not one’s own.

6. Plagiarism

Academic Honesty- Receiving or giving information for an assignment is cheating and when caught in the act students will not receive credit nor receive the opportunity for a chance of make-up. Plagiarism is not acceptable: If a student takes information from the Internet or any printed resources without a citation, it is considered plagiarism and will result in a reduction in grade.

Supplies: Flash/jump Drive (2 GB), Spiral Notebook (or lose-leaf paper) or Composition book, a 2-pocket folder w/ 3 prongs, and #2 pencil for notes and “scan tron” tests. A folder will be provided for each student who cannot obtain one. Folders will be used to keep handouts and worksheets (on one side) and on the other side graded work that has been returned, but needs to be kept until a “progress report” or “report card” is issued.

Student Expectations:

Technology Acceptable Use Policy: Students may not be on the Internet EXCEPT to do what is assigned in class. You are not allowed to touch another student’s computer unless you have been given permission from the teacher.

1. All students will use the available technology with respect to proper care and function of the equipment. Any student found to be guilty of damaging or vandalizing technical equipment, including hardware or software, will be cited for school property abuse.

(This includes writing/marking on the computers, printers, or any equipment in the classroom.)

2. Internet access is to be used to promote educational excellence and learning only. Internet is a privilege, not a right. This privilege will be lost if abused. Anytime you are found on an inappropriate site or on the Internet when you should be doing other work, you will lose your Internet privilege.

3. Students’ actions will be monitored, and they will be held responsible for information viewed, received, or sent using school property.

4. Tampering with a network is a criminal offense and is subject to BOE prosecution.

5. Do NOT inspect, create, or alter any file(s), menus, or default settings without permission from your teacher.

Restroom/Water/Nurse Passes

Students are encouraged to use the transitional time between classes for restroom breaks instead of socializing. Students often come into class, sit a few minutes before the tardy bell rings, and then decide they need to use the restroom. Students are encouraged to go to the restroom before coming to class, during homeroom and lunch. Students will be given three (3) restroom/water passes to use for each nine (9) week period. If there is a medical condition where your child needs to take medicine, go to the bathroom or must drink water during my class, please inform me by sending a signed note or by e-mailing me. Nurse passes will be issued on a NEEDS basis only. Sometimes students want to go to the Nurse during their Connections’ class rather then ask to go during an academic class. Students can bring water (only) to drink during class and it must be placed on the floor in a closed container.

Safety Procedures

The students’ safety in the classroom is a priority. We will follow some basic safety principles to make sure every student is safe:

1. Always walk in the classroom (computer equipment is very costly).

2. Report any computer problems to the teacher immediately. Always check your computer at the beginning of class and pick-up your materials (book bag, lunch box, purse, water, “flash drive”) at the end of class.

3. Do not insert anything in the computer drives or electrical sockets. The only item acceptable to be inserted in the computer disk drive would be a flash/jump drive. Do not pop-off keyboard keys or remove covers. Do not interchange any equipment; mouse, etc. with another computer without the permission of the teacher.

4. Always clean up your computer station/work area and push in your chair before leaving class.

Attendance:

Unexcused Tardy: If a student arrives to class after the tardy bell rings; then they must have a written pass from the previous teacher OR student is not in the classroom seated and ready to begin before the tardy bell rings.

Unexcused Absence: Student misses entire class for reason other than illness or doctor’s appointment, death in family, religious holiday, school activity, or absence approved by grade level administrator prior to absence.

Students will be given two days for every day absent to make up classwork/homework. The teacher will inform the student of the exact date for a quiz or test that was missed while absent.

Positive Reinforcements for Good Behavior:

Student of the week/month

“Goodie bag: for participation, high grade for a quiz, etc.

Student assistant; pass out papers, write agenda on the board, etc.
