A RESOLUTION adjourning the Senate in honor and loving memory of Charles T. Black.

WHEREAS, Charles T. "Charlie" Black was a Cherryville, North Carolina, native and son of the late Clarence David and Dorothy Faye Grigg Black; and

WHEREAS, Charles T. Black made a home for himself in Morgantown, Kentucky, and was a cherished member of the community where he served as the Butler County High School Band Director and as Mayor of Morgantown for 34 years; his commitment to service continued as he served as a member of Cassia Masonic Lodge #272 F&AM, Chairman of the Board at Kentuckiana Children's Center, part owner of Beech Tree News and Radio 1570 AM WLBQ. He also helped to found The Green River Catfish Festival, and was instrumental in developing the Morgantown City Park which later became Charles T. Black City Park in honor of his hard work and dedication; and

WHEREAS, as an educator and as Mayor, Charles T. Black was a powerful role model and an inspiring presence in the community; he encouraged his students to believe in themselves and instilled in them a strong work ethic; he often challenged them by saying, "The world wants results, not excuses!"; and

WHEREAS, Charles T. Black was the loving husband of Mary Alice Black, devoted father of Carol Black and Jan Black Embry and husband Michael; proud grandfather of Garrett Embry and Mary Beth Embry; caring brother of Sonja Hoyle and Bob Black; and he left behind a host of family and friends; and

WHEREAS, Charles T. Black was the loving father of Mark and Charlotte Black, and caring brother of Dorothy Smith and Bill Black who preceded him in death; and

WHEREAS, Charles T. Black departed this earthly life on January 14, 2012, at the age of 81; and he will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and community, and cherished for the legacy he left behind;

NOW, THEREFORE,

Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

®Section 1. The Senate expresses its most profound sense of sorrow and extends its sincerest condolences to the family, friends, and community of Charles T. "Charlie" Black.

®Section 2. When the Senate adjourns this day, it does so in honor and loving memory of the life and legacy of Charles T. "Charlie" Black.

®Section 3. The Clerk of the Senate is directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Mary Alice Black, 106 Sunset Loop, Morgantown, Kentucky 42261.
