Students must obtain 902 clock hours to advance to senior level. Using a mannequin, students will demonstrate the four basic haircutting principles and techniques. Students will be scored using the Cosmetology rubric and must achieve a minimum score of 3 in all areas and score minimum of 80% on the written exam according to Cosmetology Standards. Enduring Understanding #2: Learn the chemical action that takes place during a chemical service.Performance Assessment(s): Students will be able to analyze hair texture to determine the proper chemical product to use on a client. Using a live model, students will analyze the hair texture and choose the correct chemical product, and demonstrate proper usage. Students will be able to select the appropriate hair color for client’s skin tone and desired result. Students will be scored using the Cosmetology rubric and must achieve a minimum score of 3 in all areas. Enduring Understanding #3: Students will learn the relationship of chemistry, electricity and light therapy as it relates to cosmetology. Performance Assessment(s): Students will be able to explain the relationship of chemistry, electricity and light therapy to cosmetology. Given a range of products, the student will be able to explain the pH (potential hydrogen) value of each product. Students will select the appropriate light therapy for a specific condition and implement it safely. Students will be scored using the Cosmetology rubric and must achieve a minimum score of 3 in all areas and score minimum of 80% on the written exam according to Cosmetology Standards. Enduring Understanding #4: Students will be able to effectively care for client’s skin and nails.Performance Assessment(s): Students will be able to improve client’s skin appearance through daily facial maintenance. Students will be able to improve the appearance of client’s hands and toes through manicure and pedicure application. Students are responsible for replacing lost or stolen items.After completing 780 classroom hours students may bring in clients for hair service.Course Grading SystemGrades are based on a point system. Students are advised on the number of points each assignment is worth.
