Adventures with Purpose—Costa Rica—This time Richard Bangs is exploring the ecological nexus of North and South America, in the small but potent package of a country, Costa Rica. The people there are on a tear to preserve the extravagant biodiversity of their national field of dreams—and it seems to be working. Richard is off to find out the secret to their success, as he traverses a land often cited as a green beacon to the world, as well as a place two recent international studies proclaimed “the happiest country on earth!” Costa Rica: Quest for Pura Vida is co-produced by Small World Productions, KCTS/ Seattle and Richard Bangs Productions of Marina del Rey, California. Adventures with Purpose—Costa Rica—Renowned adventurer and award-winning travel writer Richard Bangs explores Tortuguero National Park, Costa Rica via kayak with friend and fellow-adventurer Michael Kaye. In his latest American Public Television special, Bangs is on a Quest for Pura Vida, a widely used Costa Rica greeting that literally means “Pure Life.” But Richard aims is to find out if there’s a deeper meaning to Pura Vida. Could Pura Vida be a clue to the roots of Costa Rica’s exceptionalism? Adventure travel author Richard Bangs discovers the delights of Nectranda Cloud Forrest Garden on Adventures with Purpose—Costa Rica: Quest for Pura Vida, the ninth installment of this series of specials from American Public Television. Bangs’ quest is to learn the deeper mean of “Pura Vida,” a widely used Costa Rica greeting. Richard begins his journey on the Pacific side, where the complex ecological mosaic of the Osa Peninsula encircles Corcovado National Park. Then he explores the beaches a Punta Islita, Palo Verde National Park, and the Monteverde Cloud Forest, before heading to Tortuguero National Park, a tropical rain forest on the Caribbean coast. Costa Rica Quest for Pura Vida is produced by Small World Productions of Seattle and co-produced by KCTS/Seattle. KCTS is the presenting station to APT. The special airs in high definition and standard definition on hundreds of APT member stations.
