Coach USA Consultation Notes
February 25, 2008
Participants: Bryony Chamberlain, Coach USA
Marianne Freed, Office Administrator
Jane Smelser, Public Transit Manager
Juana Hostin, Planner
Brett Harris, Planner
After introductions, Brett gave a brief overview of Ohio’s current intercity program. He asked Bryony if she had any questions concerning the Intercity Bus Needs Assessment. She said she read the introduction and the proposals of the assessment and had no questions.
We discussed the current Coach USA routes:
1) Chicago to Indianapolis to Cincinnati to Columbus – 1 round trip daily using Interstate Route 71 between Columbus and Cincinnati
2) Chicago to Indianapolis to Columbus – 2 round trips daily using Interstate Route 70 going east and west between Indianapolis and Columbus
3) Chicago to Indianapolis to Cincinnati - 2 round trips per day using Interstate Route 74 from Chicago to Indianapolis and then Interstate Route 70 to Columbus
4) Chicago to Toledo to Cleveland – 3 round trips per day using Interstate Route 80 across the northern part of Ohio
The route from Cleveland to Pittsburgh was dropped.
Bryony gave us the stops at each city:
1) Columbus: Bus terminal on Spring Street (COTA) and at Ohio State University
2) Cincinnati: 4th and Vine (SORTA)
3) Toledo: Southwick shopping mall (TARTA)
4) Cleveland: Tower City
Fares are all internet sales and are based on how far in advance the tickets are purchased, the day of the week of travel, and how many are scheduled for that trip. Fares start at $1. The buses are single decker and double decker with no lifts. The floors are curbside level and ramps are used for wheelchairs. The double decker buses can hold 79 passengers with luggage.
Coach USA’s target customers are cities with population over 1 million with student populations of 20,000 to 30,000 students.
Bryony Chamberlain had no other proposals. ODOT will keep Coach USA informed of the request for proposals period and will ask for the most updated schedules to best coordinate any new intercity routes.
Discussion ended at 1:40 pm.
