Meter of 3Kindergarten Lesson for week of April 13Review:Last time we discussed the meter of two. In the meter of two we have a strong beat on beat one and a weak beat on beat two. The meter of two sounds like a march. To practice this idea count 1, 2 over and over again but make the 1 loud and the 2 soft. There was an American composer (someone who writes music) named John Philp Sousa. He wrote lots of marches. His most famous march was Stars and Stripes Forever. If you haven’t listened to his music yet check out of 3:In the meter of 3, we just add one beat to our counting. Beat one is still the strong beat (louder) and beats 2 and 3 are weak (softer). As you count try swaying on beat one. Practice counting in the meter of 3.The meter of 3 will sound like you are swaying or doing a special dance called waltzing. There was a composer (someone who writes music) who loved to write ballets. His name was Peter Tchaikovsky. He lived in Russia and wrote during the Romantic Period. He wrote several ballets that contained waltzes. Here are some links to learn about Tchaikovsky and to listen to some of his music.Biography for Kids from Swan Lake of the Flowers from The Nutcracker from Sleeping Beauty fun.
