Slide 5 - Create New Product Combinations Using the Product Launch Process

Slide notes

If you introduce a new product that is significantly different from existing products, then the history of the existing products may not be useful. However, the combinations of dimension values, such as item, organization, and customer site, may still be applicable for you to use when entering forecasts. With this update, you can use the existing new product introduction process to initialize the combinations of dimension values for a new product without copying data from an existing product. Additionally, you can now access Manage Product Launch directly from the Plan Level Actions menu as an alternative to the existing table-level access.

You no longer need to select an item before launching the Manage Product Launch function.

Slide notes

The benefits of the Create New Product Combinations Using the Product Launch Process feature is that you can initialize combinations of dimension values to enter data for new product combinations with a minimum of effort. In previous releases, in order to enter a forecast for a new product you first had to go through the process of copying historical data from a similar product. This was necessary to establish the item, customer, and organization combinations that were valid for the new product. Copying historical data is important when you want the statistical engine to generate a forecast for the new product based on the historical demand of a similar product. But if you’ve already determined the forecast for the new product or if the new product is not similar to any existing product, this step is unnecessary and time consuming. Now with the enhanced functionality of the Create New Product Combinations Using the Product Launch Process feature you can establish the item, customer, and organization combinations for the new product without the additional step of copying data. This saves you time and provides a streamlined approach to manually enter forecasts for new products.

Create New Product Combinations Using the Product Launch Process allows you to incorporate new products into your demand plan quickly and easily. The new products are available as soon as the Manage Product Launch process completes.

Slide 19 - Additional Information for Create New Product Combinations Using the Product Launch Process

Slide notes

Here is some additional information about this feature. You are now able to introduce a new product by simply specifying the associated organizations and customers without the need to copy historical demand from an existing product. You can also access Manage Product Launch directly from the Plan Level Actions menu as an alternative to the existing table level access.

You no longer need to select an item before launching the Manage Product Launch function. The organization and customer combinations that are available for the target product will be based on those that exist for the source product.

When creating a new product launch, the launch date is defaulted to the current date plus 30 days instead of the current date. You can override the default for launch date. After the Manage Product Launch process completes, you can manually enter measure values, such as forecast overrides, for the new product. This work is possible without performing a plan run and without specifying any measures to be copied in the Manage Product Launch dialog.

Finally, measure values entered for the new product are preserved during future plan runs. These values are preserved even if the original Manage Product Launch entry is deleted.
