Grade Weights:

The final grade for the class is the weighted average of Semester 1 and Semester 2 grades. This course does not have an EOCT.

Semester grades are calculated as follows:

• 45% Major Grades/Tests: Unit tests, Projects, Current Event Articles

• 25% Homework/Daily: Daily assignments, homework, quizzes

• 20% Labs: Lab Reports, activities

• 10% Midterm (S1) or Final (S2)

Study Hall:

Required Daily Study Hall is a part of every student’s class schedule. In addition, three FAB Wednesday afternoon study hall sessions will begin for each subject area from 1:40 pm-3:45 when we go back to the normal bell schedule. These sessions are mandatory for students failing classes. An additional science study hall is from scheduled for 3:45-5:20pm. The days will be announced at a later date. Location for after school science study halls rotates between teachers and will be posted in the classroom.

Missed Tests, Quizzes, and Labs

Students that miss an assignment, such as a test, quiz, or lab will make up that assignment during the after school science study hall or FAB Wednesday sessions. Class time will not be used to make up missed assignments as this causes students to fall further behind in class.

Hall Passes

Students should take care of restroom, water, vending machine, office and nurse needs between classes. Students may not leave class the first or last 10 minutes of class (school policies.)

Communication

Student communication will take place through the Schoology platform. Students should make sure they have access to Schoology on a phone or computer and have notifications set to “on” to be alerted to important assignments and messaging. Schoology will be used to assign work while on the hybrid schedule and if all virtual. Screenshots will not be accepted. Work must be uploaded. Students may NOT use personal email addresses. Parent communication will take place through the Blackboard Messaging System or via e-mail or phone call. IMPORTANT: Parents should make sure their correct phone number and/or e-mail address is on file in Power School. If not, please see Melissa Sloan in the School Guidance Office. Parents may not use the student’s Schoology messaging to communicate with teachers.

Electronic Devices

Students may not use cell phones or other electronic devices during class unless the teacher has given explicit permission to do so. If a student is using a phone or device without permission, it will be taken to the front office where it may be retrieved by a parent or guardian. Incident will result in an Office Referral and student may receive additional disciplinary action. Phones must be placed in the pouch assigned to them as soon as they enter the classroom.

Students are expected follow ALL rules and expectations in the Student Handbook with fidelity.

All students are also required to abide by the Student Safety Agreement for all lab and classroom activities.
