Current Event Asssignment - SPRING 2018



Current Events Presentation- 50 pts.

1. Choose an article. It should be from a credible news source (such as google news, , , ), no older than one month, and based on U.S. politics and current events. Read the article and make sure you understand it. See your teacher far in advance if you have questions about your article, or how to choose one.

2. Create a presentation. You must create a presentation for the class about the article. It should:

a. Be done on presentation software, such as powerpoint or prezi.

b. Contain a title slide, with your name, the article name, and the topic it is about.

c. Contain visuals, either a video (no longer than three minutes, embedded in the presentation), or pictures (at least three, placed in the presentation on various slides)

d. Contain one slide summarizing the article (bullet points please, just the basics)

e. Contain one slide explaining the article’s connection to what we are studying (bullet points please, just the basics)

f. Contain one slide explaining your personal opinion on the subject (bullet points please, just the basics)

3. Complete the write-up. The write-up involves three sections, the same as the presentation, only in more depth (see below): article summary, connection to what we are studying in class, and your opinion on the story.

4. Attach the article. Please only attach no more than pages 1 and 2 to your write-up. The write-up should go on top. Don’t waste your paper and ink, and my time.

Connection to what we’re studying: 10 points

Student opinion: 10 points

Attachment of article: 5 points

Presentation: 15 points

Note: Pick an article that is INTERESTING to you. The goal of this assignment is to make a relevant connection between the content we cover in class and the daily events unfolding around you. Reading and analyzing something of interest will help you remember the content, so that you will walk away learning something valuable (and you will do better on the final unit assessment!).
