A Current Events Guide (updated) - Mrs. hawkins' classroom

[Pages:1]A Current Events Guide (updated)

Directions: Students will be reporting four times throughout the year on a current event. Students will be required to bring in an article from a newspaper or magazine (credible online sources will be accepted) and report on a current event issue that is happening around the world. The newspaper publication date cannot be older than 2 weeks and the magazine may not be older than 2 months. The article must be at least 3 paragraphs in length. The article cannot be about the United States. If students are finding it difficult to find an article in a newspaper or magazine a parent must notify me via email. I will help them locate an article, but I will need at least two days' notice to assist them. Students have been given the Current Events Presentation Schedule & Analysis page which covers this quarter. A copy of this schedule can also be found on our classroom web page. They will need to bring in a copy of the article, the completed current event Analysis sheet, and be prepared to present the information to the classroom. Students will report their findings to the class verbally in their own words, tell why they selected the article, and lead a brief class discussion. Students will receive extra credit if they include the use of a visual aid as described on the rubric. Since this assignment focuses on Current Events, no late presentations, aside from an absence, will be accepted.
