Senior Memory Book Project - Amazon S3

Senior Memory Book Senior English Mrs. Lisa Davis

During this year you will compile a Senior Memory Book. It will consist of your memories and thoughts from your whole life. Throughout the year you should compile your book, putting in the writing for each chapter as it is returned to you.

The final product will be due on April 26, 2013, and should be presented to me in a loose-leaf, snap-ring binder, a photo album, scrapbook, or whatever else your creative forces call on you to use. Whether you need a ? inch or a 2 inch binder will depend upon how much you put into this memory book. Your binder may have drawings or pictures affixed to the outside cover, inside cover, and /or the spine if you wish. You may also include pages of drawings and pictures in addition to your chapters or to illustrate your chapters. Just be sure that whatever you do is school appropriate! Make this something that you would be tremendously proud to have as the centerpiece of your graduation table this spring. You have creative freedom with this! There is not just one way to put this together. You choose the form that your book will take! Make it as unique as possible!

Your Senior Memory Book must include the following chapters. Each chapter must be a minimum of two double-spaced pages when turned in to me for verification of completion. The chapters you turn in to me throughout the year should be typed using a size 12 Times New Roman font. Your writing should demonstrate thoughtfulness about the topic and pride in your written work. When you compile your book, you may change your font size and font style to any preference you have.

Chapter 1: "My Story" Who are you? Where do you live? What are your life goals? How do you expect to reach these goals? Due Friday, September 7

Chapter 2: "Before I Was, There Were _____ and Suddenly I Became Me" Your parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, older cousins and siblings, and anybody who may not be a relative but who has helped to pave the way for you and your family. Include your earliest memories: people, places, events, all those cute things you said and did when you were tiny that your mother tells you about. Have some of your relatives write a brief reflection about your family. When and where were you born? Were there any unusual or humorous circumstances surrounding your birth? How was your name chosen? What are some memories from your early years? Due Friday, September 21

Chapter 3: "I Grew Up Here" Describe your town, neighborhood, rural community. Describe your home and bedroom over the years. How has your space changed as you grew up? Did you have a secret place you liked to go? Due Friday, October 5

Chapter 4: "School Bells" Your earlier years in school - K through 4th grade - first day jitters, fears, anticipation, learning to read, multiplication tables, special school programs, special teachers and friends. Tell about where you lived and the school(s) you attended. Include favorite activities you enjoyed during this period of your life. This is a good place to include some of your early schoolwork or artwork. Due Thursday, October 18

Chapter 5: "Middle School" Getting accustomed to "big kids" school; teachers, friends, activities, successes, heartbreaks, trips. Discuss how you changed since early school years. How have you changed physically? Remember those Bugs Bunny teeth we all had in fourth grade? What new activities have you added? How has your family changed during the past few years? Where did you live and which school(s) did you attend? Did you become active in sports or clubs during this time? If so, which ones? Include schoolwork and artwork from these years. Due Friday, November 2

Chapter 6: "I Wish I Could See _____ Again" Tell about a person (childhood friend, neighbor, family member, teacher) that you have no contact with any more but would like to see again. What was your relationship like with this person back then? What happened to change that? Why would you like to see this person now? What would you tell that person? Due Friday, November 16

Chapter 7: "Let Me Entertain You" Describe in detail games you played growing up, favorite movies, favorite pastimes, and favorite hangouts. When you were old enough to go out with friends, what did you do? (Don't include dates here.) Due Friday, December 7

Chapter 8: "My First Boyfriend/Girlfriend" Write about the first crush you had. Who was it? What happened? Due Friday, January 25

Chapter 9: "I'm Really in Love This Time, Mom" Your first serious romance. If you have never had a serious relationship, describe what you consider the perfect relationship. Due Friday, February 1

Chapter 10: "Let's Take a Vacation" A memorable trip you took with your family and/or friends, or a trip you would like to take. Due Friday, February 15

Chapter 11: "Besides My Parents, There Was _____" Write about the one most influential person, other than your parents, in your life. I know this is difficult to do, but don't waffle here and try to select more than one. Do some soul searching and choose that ONE person who has been MOST influential. Tell why you chose that person. Due Friday, March 1

Chapter 12: "High School: The Early Years" Your freshman, sophomore, and junior years in high school: highlights, troubles, successes, heartbreaks, friends, teachers, coaches. Remember coming to the BIG school and thinking you would never find your way around? How was your freshman year? What were some of your anxieties? What were some of the myths you had heard about high school? Were any of them true? How did you manage to "fit in" to high school life--clubs, subjects, teachers, new buildings, new friends? Do the same thing for your sophomore year, only now you are a little more comfortable. Write about learning to drive, beginning to date, getting that first job, becoming more involved in school. Write about your junior year: prom, class ring, moving up the class ladder--still not at the top but within sight of it. Due Friday, March 15

Chapter 13: "At Last, I'm a Senior" Write a reflection of your senior year--sitting for your senior portrait, paying those many graduation fees, choosing graduation invitations, ordering the cap and gown, making sure you have all your credits. How did it feel to go through all those "lasts"--last pep rally, last ballgame, last report due, last class schedule? Was it everything you expected or a little different? How did YOU treat this year's freshmen? What are you feeling now as you get ready to embark on a new chapter of your life. Have one or both of your parents (or a significant adult) write a brief reflection of the past twelve years. Due Friday, March 29

Epilogue: "Do I Have a Word of Advice for You!" The best advice you ever received and the advice you would give to the Class of 2014.

"Look Out World, Here I Come!!!" Share your hopes, dreams, and goals for the future. You will also want to share your tears, fears, and worries. Where do you see yourself 10 years from now? Due Friday, April 12

The more thorough and the more creative you are in decorating your book and pages and sections with drawings, pictures, photographs, "stuff" cut out of magazines or newspapers or brochures, the higher the grade will be. Any book that does not contain all chapters will receive a lower grade, regardless of how creative you are. I will check on your progress as you write your chapters.

Have fun with this assignment! Share with your family as you work on your chapters. Moms often have great memories and can help fill those pages. You may have help on decorating your book, but you alone must write the chapters. Some things you might want to include are quotations that are meaningful to you; passages from literature; a list of favorite books, movies, or music; candid photographs; a gallery of photographs of you at every grade; a family tree; other pages that show individuality and creativity (remember, everything must be school appropriate!); your own creative writing. Have fun!
