Humble, tossed away materials like

broken toys, tin cans, milk cartons, plastic bags,

September 2009 ?June 2010

wood scraps and cake boxes can find new life

through the artist's creativity. In transFORMation: Art Made from Recycled and Reused

Materials, Artmobile elevates America's cast off trash to museum treasures. This timely

exhibition featuring wired and welded assemblages, sculptures made from olive oil cans, dolls

made of old tools, books made from cake mix boxes, as well as masks, musical instruments

and furniture made of found wood and objects makes connections with all curricular

areas--language arts and literacy, math, science, social studies and, of course, the arts.

Cultural aspects of recycling are explored, as well as the differences and similarities between

how folk artists and fine artists use these materials. Finally, students develop a keener under-

standing of ecology through reusing, reducing and recycling objects as they discover design

and meaning in art. transFORMation informs and delights

Artmobile will visit 38 schools and

visitors of all ages while providing schools with an enriching opportunity for integrating arts across the curriculum and encouraging recycling throughout the entire school community.

Artmobile is a non-collecting, traveling museum dedicated to providing the school children and residents of Bucks County access to fine, original works of art. It is a vital component of Bucks County Community College which provides important cultural outreach programs in accordance with the college's mission. We are committed to fostering an understanding of art, art making and the value of art in our communities and our lives by exhibiting and interpreting works of art.

transFORMation is supported in part by the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, a state agency, through the Pennsylvania Partners in the Arts (PPA), its regional arts funding partnership. State government funding for

the arts depends upon an annual appropriation by the Pennsylvania General Assembly and from the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency. PPA is administered in this region by the Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance.

The mission of Bucks County Community College is to provide to the County's diverse population of learners accessible, affordable, convenient, and comprehensive educational, training, and cultural opportunities that will equip them to be competent and effective in their work and as citizens of the world.
