For Modern Languages, these standards consist of The 5 C’s. Please visit statements for more details. The Five C’s - Standards:Communication: Students will engage in conversations, understand and interpret spoken and written language, and present information on a variety of topics.Culture: Students will learn about Spanish culture, products, practices and perspectives.Connections: Students will connect aspects of their target language learning with information acquired in other subject areas such as math, science, social studies, English and the parisons: Students will demonstrate an understanding of the nature of language and culture, making comparisons between those of the target language and their munities: Students will find and engage in the target language outside of the school environment and show evidence of building a life-long skill for their own personal enjoyment and municative Objectives – Students will be able to communicate and exchange information about familiar topics using phrases and simple sentences, sometimes supported by memorized language. Students will be able to handle short social interactions in everyday situations by asking and answering simple questions.Materials needed to be brought to class daily by students:one (to one and a half) inch binder – six dividers are suggested – one for each chapter/lesson. loose-leaf paperwriting instrument (pencil or blue or black pen)Surface Pro tablet – provided by school to students Resources:Textbook - Descubre 1: ISBN9791680045246. VHL -Vista Higher Learning – on-line platformGrading:A=100-90B=89-80C=79-70F=69-0Grades will be based as follow:20% Final Exam 25% Summative – tests and major projects20 % Formative – quizzes, classwork, and minor projects30% Progress Reporting – performance based assessments (PBAs) – four per semester which includes three speaking and one written. Students must produce the target language.5% Homework – class participationRecovery: Provision for improving gradesStudents who complete a major assessment but fail to demonstrate mastery as evidenced by a grade below 75% on the major assessment may pursue an improvement opportunity to show proficiency. In the case of an honor code violation on a major assessment, the grade will stand as a zero with no eligibility for recovery on that assignment. Students should contact the teacher concerning recovery opportunities within 5 school days of being informed of the grade on the assessment in class. Students are allowed one attempt at recovery per major assessment. All recovery work must be completed 10 days before the end of the semester.The grade on the recovery assignment will replace the original grade if the recovery grade is equal to or below 75%. If the recovery grade is above 75%, the original grade will be replaced with a 75.score on prior assessment. For example, if a student makes a 56 on the first attempt and a 78 on the recovery test, the original grade will be replaced with a 75.56.CHATTAHOOCHEE HONOR CODE POLICY:The Honor Code will be strictly enforced. Students who violate the Honor Code will receive a grade of "0" on the assignment. The assignment may not be made up and is ineligible to be altered through recovery. Honor Code violations will be reported to the administration, and appropriate disciplinary measures will be taken. Pilagiarism: Acts of plagiarism include, but are not limited to use of:Words or ideas from a published source without proper documentationThe work of another student (e.g. copying another student’s homework, composition, or project)Excessive editing suggestions of another student, teacher, parent or paid editorUse of online translators. Students may use for vocabulary and word usage guidanceClassroom Rule, Procedures and Expectations: Although we have many procedures, we have only one rule: Be respectful of each other, our time, our materials, our classroom and our world. Please refer to the Crooks Classroom Procedure handout, which can be found on my Weebly site.Phone procedures: Upon entering the room, students are to store their phones in the pocket assigned to them. Attendance will be taken by looking for missing phones. Failure to store phone will result in a warning.If students are caught using their phones during class, the phone will be confiscated and turned into the office, and student will receive a detention.BehaviorFor minor behavior issues our classroom discipline procedure is as follows:First infraction – warning (maybe verbal or card placed on desk)Second infraction- private conversation with teacherThird infraction – call to parent (e-mail will be sent if not able to make phone contact)Fourth infraction – detention assigned For major infractions (e.g. use of phone in class or dress code violation) – detention assignedAbsences Make-up procedures:Students are responsible for material covered in class during their absence.? Students should check Google Classroom to check the work missed. Students absent during a test day will make up the written portion of the test on their first day back (during the class period). Students must schedule a time to complete the listening section/s of the test with the teacher. Teacher/Parent Communication:I believe in an open line of communication between parents and teachers.
