Director of Corporate Affairs | Mid and South Essex NHS foFoundation Trust

Letter from the Chief Commercial Officer

Thank you for your interest in joining Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust and for taking the time to read this information pack. You will join the Trust at both an exciting and challenging time, our Trust has an innovative five-year strategy setting out the ambitions for the Trust and our partnerships. Our ambition is to improve health and wellbeing through excellent, financially sustainable services provided by staff supported to develop, innovate and build rewarding careers. As Director of Corporate Affairs, you will play a key role in achieving our ambition, by ensuring all contributions, discussions and decision making that relate to the business of the Board and its sub-committees, along with Trust Management Executive, are compliant and properly recorded in accordance with good governance.

As Director of Corporate Affairs, you will be providing leadership across the integrated governance agenda, assuming responsibility for all aspects of corporate governance, including Board matters, regulator relationships and the management of membership and governor services.

The future working arrangements with healthcare partners across the Mid and South Essex area provides a positive opportunity to further develop and enhance the service. We are excited about the opportunities stronger partnership working can deliver and our focus will initially be the reconfiguration of acute services to improve quality and access to hospital-based care, whilst shifting care into the community where appropriate and integrating primary, community, mental health and local non-health services to provide holistic support closer to home. We have a significant capital investment for the necessary acute reconfiguration and considerable progress has already been made to secure additional funding and partner engagement to achieve our ambitions.

You will provide leadership across the integrated governance agenda, assuming responsibility for all aspects of corporate governance, including Board matters, regulator relationships and the management of membership and governor services. In essence you will be a pivotal member of the trusts leadership and have strong stakeholder management skills. As Director of Corporate Affairs, you will ensure all contributions, discussions and decision making that relate to the business of the Board and its sub-committees, along with Trust Management Executive, are compliant and properly recorded in accordance with good governance.

You will be a key figure in setting the agenda on communications and our approach and have responsibility for leading the Trust approach to stakeholder engagement and internal/external communications. You will have a strong and able team reporting into you, which includes the Trust Corporate offices and Programme Management Office, and though you will report to me as Chief Commercial Officer, you will have strong relationships and full access to the CEO and Chair to ensure you are able to carry out the role effectively.

This is a fantastic time to join the Trust; whilst we have clearly been impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic, we are rising to the challenges as a trust and have been agile and responsive to the needs of our patients and staff. Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust strives to offer a seamless service.

We look forward to working with you and hope you apply for this role.

About Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust

Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust is a new acute trust. It was created on 1 April 2020 following the merger of the three acute trusts in mid and south Essex.

Our three original hospital trusts, Basildon University Hospital, Mid Essex Hospitals and Southend University Hospitals officially merged on 1 April 2020 to become Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust. This was the culmination of more than four years of collaborative working which had already led to better clinical care for our patients, more career opportunities for our staff, and improved working with the wider health and care system in Mid and South Essex. Our three large acute hospitals are located in Basildon, Chelmsford and Southend. We also provide services at our other hospitals sites in Braintree, Maldon and Orsett. We are now a Trust of 15,000 staff providing a service to 1.2 million patients in the community which we serve.

What are we doing? - Our proposed ambition and objectives

Our ambition is to improve health and wellbeing through excellent, financially sustainable services, provided by staff supported to develop, innovate, and build rewarding careers.

Our ambition is supported by four strategic objectives: 1 Be an adaptive, well-led, high performing and innovative organisation which joins up care for the people we serve. 2 Deliver high quality, safe and responsive services shaped by best practice and our local communities. 3 Be an employer of choice for a supported, engaged, and high-performing workforce. 4 Be effective and efficient with all our resources, creating an organisation that residents and staff can rely on for the long-term.

These objectives will be underpinned by a set of approaches we will aim to promote: Digitally enabled We are ambitious and work together to deliver care in more innovative ways, at greater convenience and with high quality systems and infrastructure. We embrace the new. Data driven We use information, analysis, and evidence to understand our work and inform our decisions, as well as to evaluate their impact and improve. Financially responsible We work within a clear financial framework and approach everything we do with an aim to add value. We hold ourselves to clear standards. Compassionate and inclusive We listen to and care for each other, and celebrate our communities and our differences. We collaborate and work together. Our diversity makes us stronger. Sustainable and secure facilities We manage our estate and assets well to support our patients and staff, in order to be safe, healthy and secure. Positive relationships We work with local partners for the benefit of our communities.

As part of the development of MSEFT, the Trust has undertaken a restructure of Corporate Services and most recently, Clinical Services, to meet the needs of the new merged organisation which operates across 3 acute hospital sites. This activity has been supported by its integration of digital services, processes, and the development of new Trust Values (see overleaf).
