Director of Corporate and Foundation RelationsInstitutional AdvancementSummaryThe Office of Corporate and Foundation Relations facilitates and strengthens strategic foundation and corporate partnerships for Occidental College. The Director works closely with Deans, Faculty, and Senior Administrators to identify and cultivate relationships with important corporation, foundation, and political partners for the College and to execute proposals for substantial philanthropic support. With an emphasis on the support and expansion of scholarship, global and urban initiatives, faculty and curricular development, sustainability, and student success, this Office provides an important link between Occidental and the Los Angeles and Southern California community.The Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations reports to the Associate Vice President for Development and is a member of the Institutional Advancement leadership team. The Director will be creative and entrepreneurial and will develop and implement a comprehensive strategy for engaging and soliciting foundations, corporations, and political leaders in LA, nationally, and internationally. The Director will also prepare, write and/or work with writers to develop and present proposals to foundations and corporations. The successful candidate must be willing and able to travel to meet with prospects and donors. Occasional weekend and evening events and air travel is required.Essential FunctionsFoundation and Corporation Fund RaisingWork with the Associate Vice President for Development to establish annual fundraising goals from foundations and corporations. Actively participate in the development, implementation, monitoring and assessment of strategies to achieve goals.Develop and execute a comprehensive multi-year fundraising plan targeting US as well as multi-national foundations and corporations.Carry a portfolio of gift prospects and work closely with the Director of Prospect Management and Research to identify, research, and set strategies for new prospective foundation and corporate donors.Develop, coordinate, and implement fundraising strategies to secure gifts. Develop, prepare and present formal fundraising proposals to foundation and corporate prospects. Efficiently and effectively bring proposals to successful closure.Ensure an effective stewardship plan for donors that is functional, systematically implemented and uses university best practices.Foundation and Corporate DevelopmentAdminister and pursue corporate academic partnerships as well as internships and serve as a point of contact for corporate relations within the College.Lead efforts to thoughtfully engage foundation executives and their boards, serving as a point of contact for foundation relations within the College.Collaborate with faculty to enhance and expand their existing collaborations with foundations and corporations as well as identifying, cultivating and executing new ones. Ensures foundation and industry visits to campus and visits off-campus are planned and executed professionally.Develop working relationships with the Dean’s office to enhance the collaboration with foundations and corporations. Identify, cultivate and develop strategies for engagement and solicit foundations and corporations to support Occidental College student projects, student activities and various events and initiatives.Program ManagementParticipate as an active and collaborative partner on the Institutional Advancement Leadership team.Provide leadership and vision for the team, including the supervision of the Associate Director of Foundation Strategic Initiatives.Lead by example and perform duties in compliance with university fundraising policies, goals, and procedures.Participates in defining goals, objectives, and metrics for the Foundations and Corporate Strategic Initiatives group.Participates in the development and management of budget for the Foundation and Corporate Strategic Initiatives group as well as for specific programs, initiatives and events.Coordinate development research, data integrity and prospect management. Build a large prospect base while engaging with prospects through visits and events, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship.Job RequirementsMinimum QualificationsBachelor’s degreeFive or more years of progressively enhanced experience providing leadership and innovation within a highly functioning foundation relations and/or corporate relations office or in a similar field in which an understanding of corporate and/or foundation philanthropy was developed.Major campaign, fundraising, business development, public relations and/or volunteer management experience.Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.Demonstrated commitment to the liberal arts in the 21st century.The ability to work collaboratively across disciplinary and interdisciplinary lines, and to interact successfully with a diverse constituency of varying abilities, backgrounds, interests and beliefs.A valid driver’s license and the ability to travel domestically.Preferred QualificationsAn advanced degree in a related fieldExperience closing $1M+ gifts from foundation and/or corporate donorsSubstantial management and leadership experienceHigher education experienceTo apply, please submit a resume and cover letter to: resumes@oxy.edu ................
