JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: Human Resources Advisor
JOB PURPOSE: The Human Resources Advisor is an integral part of the HR team, and is a valued advisor to the Tairāwhiti Campus Director and Managers on the Tairāwhiti Campus.
They provide specialist advice, assist in resolving staffing issues and
NATURE OF POSITION: Permanent part-time, hours negotiable
SALARY: Grade 6 $61,856 to $72,000 gross full-time per annum
CONDITIONS OF SERVICE: EIT Hawke’s Bay Individual Employment Agreement for Allied Staff
RESPONSIBLE TO: Executive Director, Human Resources and Operations

KEY TASKS
1. Advice to Managers
Works in partnership with the Campus Director and managers, on a day-to-day basis, providing advice, services and solutions that support short and long-term institutional goals and build capability:
• Deliver quality HR advice and guidance to support the development of manager/staff capability, effectiveness and wellbeing, and support effective people management decisions
• Facilitate the creation of a workplace environment that aids management to attract and retain people.
• Work within policy and frameworks to provide analysis, development of alternative solutions, and assessment of feasibility
• Build personal understanding of institute issues, planning and operational perspectives to increase the relevance of advice
2. Management Training
Provide training and ongoing support to managers on all HR related systems including Me@EIT and Contracts@EIT.
3. Relationships and Collaboration
Build productive working relationships across the organisation to facilitate effective implementation of policy and provision of advice.
4. Employee Relations
Assist with and participate in contract negotiations and participate in working groups and similar. Support senior managers during organisational restructuring and reviews.
5. Projects
Contribute to the continuous improvement of systems and processes, and as a member of the HR team, contributes to establishing and facilitating the implementation of policy and frameworks.
6. Personal Professional Development
• Keep up-to-date with changes in Human Resources legislation and practice.
• Attend training courses as appropriate and participate in EIT Staff Development initiatives.
Undertake other duties as agreed with the Executive Director, Human Resources and Operations.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
The Human Resource Advisor will have a sound knowledge of human resources practice and relevant employment legislation and expertise in employment/industrial relations and change management. Demonstrated ability to build strong and credible working relationships with managers and staff at all levels is also critical. A relevant tertiary qualification and/or equivalent experience is highly desirable.
In addition to the above the HR Advisor will be expected to have demonstrated capability in the following areas:
