POSITION INFORMATION

DEFINITION: Under direction of a division director or deputy director, directs the staff and activities of an operational unit responsible for providing either general administrative or fiscal management activities, program policy and planning services, or varied social, medical, assistance, health care, and other services to a specific client population; does other related work.

EDUCATION: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree.

EXPERIENCE: Six (6) years of experience in a public or private organization involved in programs providing either social/community, medical/health, rehabilitation/education, or vocational/occupational services to a specific client population (mentally/physically handicapped, developmentally disabled, juvenile offenders, socially/economically disadvantaged), three (3) years of which shall have involved management responsibilities, including responsibility for budget/fiscal affairs.

NOTE: The New Jersey Department of Human Services (DHS) is seeking an experienced professional to serve as an Assistant Division Director of the Field Safety and Services Unit.   Under the direction of the Office of Program Integrity and Accountability Director, the Assistant Division Director is responsible to plan, organize, and coordinate all administrative activities and managerial functions of the unit.   This includes, but is not limited to, the development of policies and procedures related to the Field Safety and Services Unit, ensuring completion of unannounced visits to community based residential programs to evaluate if individuals are at risk of abuse, neglect or exploitation; supervision and complex analysis to ensure individuals’ protection from harm; development of reporting procedures;  and quality assurance efforts within the unit.

NOTE: The ideal candidate will possess the following: strong problem solving skills; demonstrated management skills in establishing goals, prioritizing, planning, delegating, and evaluating programs. Experienced leader with knowledge assessing safety and risk in vulnerable populations and knowledge of state, local, and federal laws as they relate to persons served by the Department of Human Services.  

LICENSE: Appointees will be required to possess a driver’s license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform essential duties of the position.
