(Objectives): 1.Students will be able to use a specialty map to identify and label key geographic features of Asia and China.2. Students will be able to describe Chinese technological developments from about 200 to 1400 C.E., especially during the Tang and Song dynasties.3. Students will be able to analyze the ways in which such Chinese inventions as gunpowder, the compass, and printing affected China and the rest of the world.4. Students will be able to create a timeline about the 10 most important Chinese inventions and or Discoveries.5. Students will be able to write an essay with an introduction, a body, and a conclusion on the 10 most important Chinese Inventions and or Discoveries to them and their importance or impact it has today.6. Students will create a “Foldable on Chinese Inventions and DiscoveriesInstruction and Guided Reading – Front load VocabularyIntroduce the chapter telling students that in this lesson they will learn about Chinese discoveries and inventions made from about 200 to 1400C.E., and their effects on China and the rest of the world. Teacher will project Transparencies and pass out pictures on the different Chinese Inventions and Discoveries – while loading vocabulary. Guided Reading 18.1 Introduction - reviewing chapter and to clarify key terms. Ask students which inventions may have helped Chinese sailors? Students and teacher read sections 18.2 – 18.6 and complete reading notes from student interactive notebooks (handouts). Students will create a Chinese Inventions and Discoveries FoldableAPPLICATION ACTIVITY : Website/Computer component/ Essay Writing Componentchina/inventions.html This is a website made a seventh grade teacher and it is pretty cool. There are sixteen inventions on the site with history and pictures. Students can will take notes about the name of the invention, approximate date of invention, write a brief description of the item, and write about the importance of or impact it has today. Some of the inventions are in the textbook and some are not. The students will research the inventions in their text and the inventions that are not.
