Arrival/Dismissal from School

MORNING DROP-OFF

The instructional day for students is Monday through Friday beginning at 7:50 a.m. and ending at 3:00 p.m. Teachers will be on duty in front of the school between 7:30 and 7:50 a.m. for parent drop-off of students. Any questions pertaining to bus transportation need to be directed to Ms. Shereene Bailey at 393-7120.

AFTERNOON PICK-UP-

Please refrain from picking your child up between 2:30 and 3:00 p.m. unless it is an absolute necessity for appointments. We understand some appointments may only be made during this time frame, and we will work with you in these situations. This time is very busy due to students and teachers wrapping up the day and finishing last minute items.

Students will not be called to the office for early pickup until the parent is physically here. Students will not be called to the office until parent arrives to sign them out.

OTHER PARKING INFORMATION…

▪ If you walk your child in each morning or pick them up each day, please park in the front parking lot. Parents may not walk students to their classroom after 7:50 a.m. due to the classroom day beginning.

▪ Please do not leave your car unattended in the drive through lanes.

▪ Please do not drive through any areas that are blocked by cones or pass cars in the pickup lanes. The pick up and drop off line is a single lane line. This is for the safety of our students.

▪ Please do not park in the handicapped parking space unless you have a license plate or windshield marker reflecting your need to do so.

▪ Kindergarten – 2nd will be picked up after school in the front of the building.

▪ 3rd – 5th grades will be picked up at the end of the day in the back parking lot.

Assemblies

Students are expected to behave appropriately at all school-sponsored events, such as district UIL and athletic events, reading nights, school assemblies, field trips, etc. Failure to do so will result in the student being asked by administration to leave, and a discipline referral will be initiated.

Rise and Shine Assemblies are held on the first day of each school week beginning at 7:50 a.m. in the gym. Parents are invited to attend and participate in these assemblies.

Attendance

Please reference Decatur ISD Student Handbook for more specific guidelines.

Confidentiality

All student information is confidential, according to Chapter 247 of the Educator’s Code of Ethics Standard A3.1. Teachers may not discuss information with any one that does not have legal guardianship of a student. This will be kept on file in the student’s folder.

Counseling

Refer to DISD Elementary Student Handbook

Discipline

A copy of the District’s Student Code of Conduct may be accessed on the district webpage or picked up at Rann Elementary’s office.

Dismissal

Students who are regularly assigned as bus riders are required to ride the bus home each day as expected. The teacher should have a note from the parent or guardian of the child to indicate that he/she will not ride the bus on any particular day. Without the note, the student will be put on the bus as normal at end of day departure. Transportation changes for the day must be relayed to the office by 2:30 p.m.

Administrators reserve the authority to enforce dress code at their discretion. Please use courtesy and common sense when dressing your student for school.

Emergency Information

Parents or guardians are to complete the necessary emergency information upon student enrollment. The information is for campus use and is also shared with the district nurse. Any change of address, contact numbers, or other pertinent information concerning students should be reported immediately to the school office. Returning students will enroll online and provide current proof of residence yearly.

Extraordinary Eagle Assembly

The honor rolls are based on the core subjects, which include Math, ELA, Science, and Social Studies. One to two students from each class are honored as an Extraordinary Eagle for the six weeks based on attitude, citizenship, helping others, and being a good role model at Rann Elementary. Parents are notified ahead of time if their child is being honored as an Extraordinary Eagle for the six weeks. All parents are welcome to attend this celebration held in the gym.

Field Trip Expectations

Field trips are designed to enhance learning for all students.

Guidelines for field trips:

▪ Students who choose not to go on the field trip still need to report to school.

▪ Appropriate dress is required and must follow Dress Code.

▪ Students may not attend field trip if required admission fee is not paid prior to day of field trip.

▪ Field trips cancelled due to weather or unexpected circumstances may or may not be made up.

DISD Grading Policy

Daily work, tests, projects, etc. will all be given equal weight. An average of 70 or higher is considered passing. Refer to Decatur ISD Elementary Handbook for more specific information.

Also see Report Cards/Progress Reports and Conferences of the DISD Elementary Handbook for additional information on grading guidelines.

Health Services

In case of injuries or illnesses during the school day, the district nurse is available by phone to help. Students should request a pass from their teacher before coming to the nurse’s office. The judgment of the nurse or administration, will determine whether a student should stay in school or be sent home.

A child will be sent home if one of the following conditions exists:

1. Fever (100 degrees or over) is present

2. Suspected contagious disease

3. Vomiting

4. Diarrhea

5. Feels too ill to remain at school

If your child has any of the above symptoms in the morning before coming to school, please keep him/her at home. For example, if your child has a fever over 100 degrees, he or she must stay out of school until fever free for 24 hours without fever-reducing medications. In addition, students with diarrheal illnesses must stay home until they are diarrhea free without diarrhea-suppressing medications for at least 24 hours. As mandated by State Law, vision, hearing, and spinal screening services are conducted throughout the school year.

Emergency Procedures

Emergency procedures will be followed according to District Guidelines. Reasonable attempts will be made by school officials to contact parents when an emergency arises. Refer to the District Reunification Plan on the district website.

Honor Roll

Students are placed on the A and A/B honor roll based on an average of 80 or above within the academic content areas of math, language arts, science, and social studies.

Library

Rann Library will be open on Tuesdays until 4:00 p.m. Mrs. Slimp will be available to help check out books during this time. Parents are also welcome to read with their child/children on Tuesday afternoons in the library.

Lunches

Parents may pay a lump sum to the student’s lunch account in the cafeteria or the student may pay on a daily basis. We welcome parents to eat lunch with their child/children in the special area we have set aside for this. Cafeteria rules apply to the stage. Please stay seated during lunchtime.

Medicine

Students are not allowed to be in possession of medicine at school. This includes over the counter medicines such as aspirin, etc. All prescriptions must be checked in with the school nurse and dispensed by the nurse or the person designated by the principal. Parents must bring medicine to school nurse and fill out the required paperwork to be kept on file.

Parent Communication

The school regularly sends out information and announcements through email, Remind 101, Rann Facebook and the Rann Marquee. Please send your email address to your child’s teacher to receive school emails. Communication is encouraged on a regular basis with the school administration, faculty, and staff. You may reach the Rann Elementary school website by going to the DISD website which is decaturisd.us Go to the campus tab, scroll down and click on Rann Elementary. You will also see a link to the Rann Facebook page where information is often placed. We welcome your communication and support.

Parent Questions or Concerns

A parent or guardian who has an academic question or concern should first approach the matter with the student’s teacher. If there are still concerns after the meeting, please contact the principal, Melonie Christian at 940-393-7604. All calls will be returned within 24-48 hours of receiving them. Faculty members have a conference period for receiving phone calls or meeting with parents by appointment. You may make an appointment by contacting the school office at (940) 393-7600 and setting it up with the campus secretary.

Release of Students

Students will be released only to those given permission by virtue of designation on the emergency card filed in the school office. It is the responsibility of parents or guardians to keep all information on the emergency card updated. Official picture identification will be required before a student can be released for pick up. If a student is to be picked up by someone other than those designated in the emergency information, parents or guardians must inform the school in person or by phone call. Thereby giving the school office personnel ample notice of such intentions. Such precautions are not in place as an inconvenience, but rather to protect the students. In emergency situations administration will make decisions based on their best judgment of the circumstance.

Title 1 Campus

Rann Elementary is a Title 1 Campus with approximately 500 students. We also house the district’s Biliteracy program serving around 150 students. We continually strive to enhance the educational opportunities for every child. The Campus Improvement Committee works together to set learning goals and expectations based upon student numerical and quantitative data. We welcome your input to improve and promote a quality place of learning for all students.

Visitors

Parents are always welcome at Rann Elementary. All parents and visitors must check in at the school’s office upon their arrival. Visitors will be required to present a valid driver’s license, and upon clearance, obtain a visitor’s badge. This badge must be worn at all times. Upon exiting the building, visitors must return the badge to the office and check out. Campus administrators reserve the right to hold a visitor’s driver’s license, accompany visitors in the building, or refuse entry to any individual. If you have walked your child into the building and plan to volunteer after 7:50 a.m., you must re-check into the office.

Volunteers

Rann welcomes parent volunteers to support and enhance the school experience for students and staff. We have an active PTO, which supports Rann in a variety of ways. All parent volunteers must fill out a background check form and be approved before volunteering within the school. The forms may be picked up from the front office for anyone that is interested in volunteering and being a part of our Rann family.
