Kid Friendly Math Websites

woodlands-junior.kent.sch.uk/maths/index.html

Wow! This site has everything for math. The links to games are incredible. The games are colorful and animated. There is also plain old computation and multiple choice test practice. However, some of the activities require JAVA and I was not able to play these on a student computer. Also, if you choose one of their links you have to reenter the website in the address box, you can’t always use the back arrow. The students in my class focused solely on the number sense practice and they loved it. These activities included comparing and ordering numbers, practice with the 100 chart and multiplying2 –digit by 1-digit numbers. I explored the practice tests. There are a couple to choose from at each level. They are self correcting at the end. There are also timed fact drills. They too are self correcting. I highly recommend this site. It is kid tested and teacher approved. Put it in your favorites.

This site would be good for the student who enjoys competition. I tried computation practice. I was matched up with three other students at the same grade level. Of course I had the advantage of not really being a third grader. The problems weren’t just simple facts they included 2-digit number addition as well. Students are able to choose a grade level which then provides them with several game choices. They can practice facts, skip counting, and there’s even practice with time. This site also provides help for teachers and parents. One disadvantage is that you have to be a member to access the entire site. However, I felt it adequate as a visitor.

This site provides practice for everything. My students and I explored only the math practice games. Several of my students were familiar with this site so they were able to help the others. There are several games to choose from for math practice. One of the games, called “Math Arcade” provided practice with lots of different skills. The student puts in his grade level and then moves his way around a game board. In order to move around the board the child must pass a level. Each level provides practice for different skills. Students may also choose a specific skill to practice. Each game provides a choice for easy or hard problems. Some of the games allow students to play against another student while others allow you to play against yourself or the computer. I found the fact practice to be worth wild. Everything is self correcting. One downfall of this site is the pop up advertisements. This site must be run by Disney because ads for their shows continually popped up. However it was not a hindrance. If you make this site available in your classroom you could also explore the reading practice games.
