Our Class News

In preparation for the Thanksgiving holiday, we took some time discussing what Thanksgiving is (a time to give thanks for what we have) and what we do on Thanksgiving (“We make a turkey!”, “We eat a turkey!”, “My family plays Wii”). We took some time journaling about what we are thankful for. Many answers were written, such as “My mommy and my daddy because I love them,” “My friends and family” as well as “My Wii because I love playing with it!” We handprinted turkeys and talked about which relatives were coming for a visit and which relatives we were going to visit (lots of cousins!).

As part of Zz week, we graphed how many Zz’s were in our name and discovered that many of our friends have zero Zz’s in their names! We also studied the zebra and discovered it has a unique pattern of stripes and created our own 2- and 3- color zebras! Lastly we made zigzags with paper and glue.

We are so excited for Thanksgiving. Have a wonderful holiday and safe travels. See you on Monday!

Thanksgiving Project: My Family Tree

In your child’s Homework Folder, you will find a large plastic bag with some papers and crayons. This is a home activity from CPS encouraged to be done with family members at home. Thanksgiving is a good time to talk about families and loved ones so this activity is being sent home at this time. This is an optional activity. If you and your child do complete it, please bring it to school! We would love to display it in our room!

Attendance Reminder

At Disney II, it is considered a tardy when the student enters the building after 8am (12:45pm for PM students). Please make appropriate arrangements to be at school on time.

Disney II Coat Drive (11/29)

Disney II is having a coat drive to benefit the Old Irving Food Pantry. Please bring in any new or gently used coats now through November 29.

School Pictures Reorders & Retakes (11/30)

If you did not order individual pictures and & would like to now, you may go to Reorder- & pay with a credit card or use an order form & pay in the main office with cash or check made payable to Porchlight Pictures.

If you would like to re-take your child’s picture, complete the form (found in the office) & send payment for the package you select.  It is only free if the child’s eyes are closed (WRITE THIS REASON ON THE ORDER FORM).  If you simply wish to have the child re-take his or her picture, full payment is required with the order form.

Picture retakes are scheduled for Wednesday, November 30.

“One for Books” Fundraiser & Book Fair (12/1)

This annual Disney II fundraiser activity is in preparation for the upcoming Book Fair! This year’s theme for the fair is “Reading is out of this World!”

Classes will be collecting change/money through Thursday, December 1. All proceeds are used to help purchase books for classroom libraries and Scholastic will match the money we raise and donate it to one of 3 charities.

Kindergarten Application for 2012-2013

Kindergarten Applications for CPS Magnet schools (including Disney II) are due Friday, December 16.

If your child will be entering Kindergarten in the 2012-2013 school year, please complete the application and submit it no later than 12/16. Preschool students do not have an automatic or guaranteed spot at Disney II Kindergarten (or any other CPS Magnet schools). Application forms are available at the office. If you have any questions about the process, please see Mrs. Santiago in the office.

Coming Up in Math…

We will practice sorting and matching objects.

With your child, look around for your home for a ball. Write your child’s name on it (labeling is suffice). On Thursday, December 1, please send the ball to school with your child. As a class, we will take a look at all the balls and find ways to sort them. (Please nothing bigger than a basketball or heavier than a bowling ball!)

Coming Up in Science…

We will begin our study of Seasons and Weathers with a look at Fall. We will go on a fall walk and take notes of what we observe as signs of fall.

Letter of the Week: Bb

We will learn what Bb looks like, sounds like and identify words that begin with Bb, such as ball, bread, bear, barn, baby, boat, boy, bus, box, bee, blue, brown, bubbles, and banana. Continue reviewing letters Mm, Tt, Ff, Nn, Hh, Aa, Pp, and Zz.
