Call to Order:

A meeting of the Deerfield Beach Middle School, School Advisory Council was held in the media center on 1/15/2020 . Chair Erika Bennett called the meeting to order at 3:33 pm . Dr. Juanita Kearse-Creech will record minutes for this meeting.

Minutes:

Minutes of the last meeting were tabled to be accepted until the next meeting until quorum. Mr. Wilson updated parents on the student ID badges. Badges were sent back to the vendor due to some errors. They should be ready to be distributed Friday. Any other errors or makeups will be done in house.

Ms. Caputo reported on tutoring; salaries are as follows:

Estimated salary amount for Teacher tutorial $3000. 

Estimated salary amount for Teacher PLC Coverage $3000. 

Ms. Caputo gave an update on IB; Key and Related concept to enhance content understanding

Ms. Rachel gave updates on Individuals and Societies, Civics (7th graders) are preparing for Civics ECO which is in May. Teachers in 8th grade are preparing students for high school.

Home Economics/ Student Consumerism students ae being giving skills to succeed in life. Last quarter was 6th grade, this quarter 8th grade. Students are now working on values and goals, in addition to how to prepare meals. Culinary Club will begin soon (next week after school, 3:00-4:30pm) looking at being creative and sharing cultural dishes.

Dr. Fulton gave the principal’s update home economics equipment is still in the processing stage. All old equipment will be moved and replaced with ne items. All window treatments are in the PO stage. Window enhancements will begin in 400/500 buildings in the next few weeks. DBMS has been approved for floor hockey, 15 students will be trying out and it will start in Feb. the girls’ volleyball team are number 1 in their division. Football will start in Feb. Track will begin in March.

Students have made significant gains in Language in Literature. Students who made gains will participate in an ice cream social on Friday. In the Iready platform 17 points is considered 1 year’s growth. Last year DBMS was 44% proficient in ELA. The benchmark is for over 50% to meet goal. Accolades were given to Deputy Williams and the Explorer Cadets.

Civics 101 class were also given accolades on working with the city of Deerfield Beach and learning how to work cooperatively. Dr. Fulton thanked the city members for working with the students.

Students and city presented projects.
