Friends of Ridgefield Community LibraryJuly 13, 2016The meeting was called to order by Vice President Lorna Earl. Those in attendance included: Donna Taylor, Ilia Wilken, Jeanne Androvich, Sean MGill, Lorna Earl, Kathy Winters, Rick Smithrud, Cathy Humphrey, Jan Robinson. Ilia moved and Jeanne seconded that the minutes be approved. Motion passed. Volunteer Hours: It necessary to keep track of volunteer hours. This give vital information for successful grant writing. There will be two forms. One is for individual events. The other is for personal record tracking. Personal should be done monthly and turned in as such. Treasurer’s Report: There are 50 cornerstones and ten stepping stones. Checking account balance is $6,678. The L.P.L. account is $120,514.42. This is a total of $127,192.91. Ilia moved and Jeanne seconded that $4,000 be transferred from checking to the investment fund. Motion passed.Trustee Meeting-Aug. 15- Signup sheet for volunteers/ contributions was circulated. Name Tags: A sample was circulated. The cost is $12. Checks need to be addressed to Kathy Winters. Membership form: Lorna showed the sample membership forms. There was much discussion about the details and things to add/subtract. Lifetime membership is to be on separate line. Membership dues are NOT tax deductible. Donations listing is to more separate and are deductible. The tax ID number will be removed and is to be used in correspondence. Ilia moved and Sean seconded that the $200 lifetime membership be allowed and reflected in the by-laws. Motion passed with 1 nay. Cathy H. moved and Ilia seconded that the following occur in the proposed membership flier:Changes in membership fees, levels are not tax deductible and so noted on flier, separate line for Lifetime category with space followed by Donations are tax deductible, quotation is attributed to Lorna Earl, will be sent via email for approval and facebook address listed on flier. Motion carried.Membership Committee: The committee would contact potential members and give information using person to person as well as Facebook and website. Donna Taylor volunteered. Jeanne also would serve being a library ambassador. Fundraisers:1st Saturday- $46 came from books and bookmarks. $40 came from bags, $100 for chairs, Basket raffle also brought in money for a total of $216. 1st Saturday in August is covered by already signed up volunteers. Silent Auction: Briquettes sold for $29. The carpet clean sold for $75. Kathy W. is donating a ukulele with case.June 9- The PNWB/winery fundraiser yielded $665, June18- Art with Kathy_ nine people signed up. This raised $225. There are still 8 slots left for October. July 29-31- Coffee shop courtyard sale- Bookmarks and bags will be sold. September 10-Ocktoberfest- Volunteers are needed. September 19-Golf tournament- We still need sponsors of a hole. This costs $150. Golfers are needed to fill slots. Kathy Winter has new email address: Kathy Winters 179@gmail.Golden Elephant Sale-December 3- December 2 is set-up day. There will be 3 tables with electrical outlet accessibility. Graphics Department made a flier. Donna, Vicki and Jan will have their phone numbers to screen/accept donations. There will be no acceptance of large furniture nor clothing. The flier will be half page, color and will be printed as soon as possible so it can be distributed to local merchants. Information will be given to Lorna for media outlets. Book Sale Date: Date to be determined due to booking at Community Center or possibly View Ridge Middle School. Sean’s Report: Cathy H. moved and Jeanne seconded that we set-up/maintain Little Free Library as proposed by W.S.U. student. Motion carried. Tevis and Sarah will talk with city regarding the location. Kathy W. moved and Ilia seconded that the responsibility of maintaining the little library be assigned to the Membership Committee. Motion passed.July 4th- Library van was recognized by crowds. Kendra wore the Sophie Otter costume and circulated among parade goers. He suggested that next year that volunteers dressed as books march in parade. A motion to convert video tapes to DVDs was tabled until August. Ilia moved and Jeanne seconded the tabled motion. The Art Association will be having Haunted Hall in Abrams Park. Craft project has been determined. Costumes, ideas are needed to for this activity. Ilia moved and Jeanne seconded that up to $50 for supplies The form will be filled out. Motion p[assed. School district barbeques were attended by library staff. A thousand students were encouraged to participate in the summer reading program. Adults can participate this summer as well. The reptile show had 215 people in attendance. This is up from 180 last summer. July 30 will be teen lock-in but will end at 11 P.M. this time. All libraries are a go to place in Pokemon Go. Rick Smithrud- FVRL- The book sale by the foundation raised $20,000.The trustee dinner is coming up soon. Thirty or so people will be attending. He is currently working on a grant from 99 Girl Friends. The date for submission is July 18. New York Times had an article on Library Impact on Small Towns. $975,833 is currently earmarked by Regional Library System for the Ridgefield Library Building Fund. BLT will be meeting July 28 at 10 A.M. The next Friends meeting will be August 10 at 1 P.M. The meeting was adjourned at 2:50 P.M.Respectfully submitted, Jan Robinson ................
