Why are there two application forms?

The State Board of Colorado must approve your eligibility to sit for the exam. Your eligibility is checked via the CO FE student application form, which is submitted to the State Board through CSM. CSM certify that you are a student before we submit the form to the state. The exam is administered by NCEES/ELSES under contract from the Colorado State Board. They require that you register separately from the state using their online application form. They will administer the printing, mailing, proctoring, grading and reporting of exam results.

When is the exam application deadline?

For current CSM senior students, the exam application deadline is announced on the review course notice, which is available at mines.edu/fs_home/knelson/EIT_INFO.html. For all others, including CSM graduate students, the deadline for application is January 1 of the current year for the April exam, and July 1 of the current year for the October exam.

What type of transcript do I need to include with my application?

An unofficial transcript, such as one downloaded and printed from Trailhead, is sufficient for the FE exam application.

If I take the FE exam and fail it, do I need to re-apply and pay another exam fee to take it again?

Yes, another application must be submitted in order to take the exam, and the NCEES/ELSES examination fee must be paid again, but the State Board will advise as to whether their fee is also payable a second time. Contact the State Board for advisement:
