MINISTRY SKILLS

Preaching, Teaching, and Prayer

▪ In preaching and teaching I use an expositional treatment of the text and employ various styles and methods as appropriate. My style is usually conversational in nature with a focus on proper exposition, interpretation, and application of the text. I use different methods of teaching, which include the use of questions, illustrations, and examples designed to provoke thought, personal understanding, and connection, with practical application as the goal.

▪ I seek to follow the example of Christ where preaching is a proclamation of the Gospel of Christ to the crowds, and teaching being where Jesus went in-depth with His disciples.

▪ Prayer is, simply put, intimacy with God; it is how we grow in our love, devotion, connection, and dependence of God and His Kingdom power through the Holy Spirit (Acts 6, 17, etc).

Leadership and Vision

▪ In the marketplace I ran a successful martial arts studio for five years. This provided unique experience in management, evaluation, and strategic alignment of talent and resources to accomplish a greater vision.

▪ Served in numerous leadership roles and capacities throughout my ministry experience, ensuring that ministries, projects, and events align with the mission and values of the specific church and of course ultimately with that of Christ. Examples include managing ministry teams, planning church-wide events such as an elder retreat, a mission trip to Fort Wilderness, family fellowship nights, directing a media ministry, and regular Sunday services.

Care and Counseling

▪ Relying on Scripture as the authority, I have counseled individuals, couples, and families through

many issues both formally and informally. A few examples include: conflict resolution, eating disorders, anger and bitterness, communication problems, marriage and premarital counseling, and general guidance.

▪ Developed and implemented a church counseling model and provided both routine and

impromptu counseling.

Discipleship and Education

▪ As a Student Chaplain in college, I mentored and discipled other chaplains and students

by investing into their lives through friendship, accountability, and Bible study.

▪ Grew a College ministry from 2 students to approximately 25. This was

accomplished by developing a student leadership team and investing in their lives by meeting

with them regularly, teaching them how to lead like Christ, and giving them leadership

responsibilities. This gave them ownership in the ministry and they began reaching out to others

and drawing them into the group.
