RE: 25th EAST Annual Scientific Assembly
Discussions: Discussions will be delivered from a podium next to the moderators’ table. Please limit your discussion to three minutes. While a brief review of the findings of the paper may be pertinent, please do not represent the entire paper. Questions for the presenter should be clear and limited to a number that can be handled in a timely fashion. The presenter will answer your questions directly after your discussion (not after an additional discussion from the floor). Ideally, this will place the onus on the presenter to actually answer the questions that he / she is asked.
Manuscripts: Manuscripts will be forwarded to you from the EAST webmaster. The deadline for submission of manuscripts to the webmaster was December 1, 2011. Please feel free to contact me if you have not received a manuscript by December 30, 2011.
Publication of Discussion – The Journal of Trauma has changed its practice on publication of discussions. Discussions will be replaced with a 300 word critique submitted following the meeting. We are giving primary discussants the opportunity to provide the critique which will be published with the final manuscript. A transcript of the presentation and your discussion will be provided following the meeting. You may use this transcript to assist in writing your critique.
Registration: Discussants are expected to register for the meeting. Registration for the 25th Annual Scientific Assembly is open. Visit the Scientific Assembly page for program details and registration information. EAST does not offer one day registration.
Meeting attire: The founders of EAST remind us that the scientific meeting is meant to be informal, and that suits and jackets should be the exception rather than the rule. Hawaiian shirts are perfectly acceptable—even for invited discussants.
Financial Disclosure: Because of new guidelines regarding CME, everyone who is on the program of our meeting (including discussants) is required to complete a Financial Disclosure statement. If you haven’t already completed one, please complete the attached form and return pages 3-4 to EAST’s CME partner, Wake Forest School of Medicine, attention Ms. Elizabeth Nolan by November 15, 2011.
Hopefully this addresses any questions you may have regarding the meeting. Please do not hesitate to contact me (skurek@utmck.edu) if you have any further issues. Thank you again for participating in the meeting. I look forward to seeing you all at EAST.
Sincerely,
