The YWCA Greater Pittsburgh Child Development and Education Center in Homewood contributes to the work of the YWCA by providing children with a high-quality early childhood education program.JOB SUMMARY:A Pre-Kindergarten Teacher works as part of a team made up of the Children and Youth Development and Education Department Director, Group Leaders, Assistant Group Leaders, Aides, Cook and clerical staff. She/he ensures the coordination of quality program (PA Pre-K Counts, NAEYC and OCDEL requirements for accreditation) for 3 to 5-year-old children in the Children and Youth Development and Education Department. This is a 10-month position. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:A Bachelor’s Degree and ECE certification from an accredited college or university in early childhood education or child development. ORA Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in early childhood education or child development with proof of teacher plan to achieve ECE certification. Act 33/34 clearances, fingerprinting, National Sex Offender Registry Clearance, and criminal background checks as well as Mandated Reporter.KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:Demonstrate knowledge of PA Early Learning Standards, PA Keystone Stars, NAEYC standards and requirements.ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:Assists Children and Youth Development and Education Director in completing requirements for accreditation including coordination of surveys.Ensure that all staff learn and follow standards and requirements.Keep Children and Youth Development and Education Department Director informed of decisions made.Maintains ratios and room municates with parents.Always informs Children and Youth Development and Education Department Director when a parent must be contacted regarding any serious matter.Works with the Children and Youth Development and Education Department Director on goal area after the completion of the ECERS evaluation of program. Implements the Big Day Curriculum with demonstrated progress in producing and implementing the curriculum.Plans and executes appropriate activities for the children each day and assists teachers to complete weekly activity plans and safe, child-centered environments.Monitors and files weekly lesson plans makes corrections as necessary and gives to Children and Youth Development and Education Director.Ensures that each group is participating in developmentally appropriate activities.Observes and evaluates each child’s progress and provides written reports to the Children and Youth Development and Education Department Director.The incumbent maintains compliance with standard DHS health and safety regulations.Must show progress towards learning and implementing DHS Certification guidelines.Supervises Assistant Group Leaders, aides and volunteers in the assigned group area; works cooperatively with all other staff. Attends staff and parent pletes all required reports in a timely fashion.Administers medications in accordance with DHS regulations and Association policy.Ensures children’s safety observing and executing preventative measures.GENERAL:Maintains high levels of consumer satisfaction.Must maintain a high level of confidentiality when working with sensitive and personal client, vendor, employee and contract information.Must effectively deal with sensitive information and occurrences.Displays consistent professionalism and courtesy when interacting with internal and external customers.Promotes and supports the mission, imperative, values and goals of the YWCA maintaining high performance standards.Participates in YWCA professional development opportunities successfully implementing new skills, knowledge and procedures.
