Merseyside Partnership Update (Week Commencing 6th July 2020)News?Support for Care Leavers & Supporting OrganisationsDfE have developed a number of factsheets for care leavers, which bring together relevant COVID-19 guidance that has been issued by Government. The factsheets cover:Care leavers who are pregnant or young parents Care leavers who are self-employed, work in the gig economy or on zero hours contracts Information for care leavers on housing and accommodation Care leavers who are claiming or need to claim Universal Credit Care leavers whose employer has stopped trading Information for care leavers to protect their emotional health and well-being during lockdown Two further factsheets are expected to follow:Care leavers in higher education;Information for care leavers who are former Unaccompanied Asylum Seeking Children (UASC).DfE have already shared these with their stakeholders through regular channels. However, please feel free to share the factsheets with frontline staff, care leavers you work with and the professionals who support them. The consultation closed on 9 September.New Business-focused GroupsBusiness Secretary Alok Sharma is creating 5 new business-focused groups to unleash Britain’s growth potential and create jobs, as part of the government’s plans to help the economy bounce back from the coronavirus pandemic.The UK Government’s COVID-19 Recovery StrategyUpdated - The strategy sets out a cautious roadmap to easing existing measures in a safe and measured way, subject to successfully controlling the virus and being able to monitor and react to its spread.Further Protection for Renters - England and WalesRenters across England and Wales will receive greater protection after the government extended the suspension of new evictions until 23 August. New court rules will also ensure vulnerable renters will be protected when the suspension of evictions ends.HMRC Unveiled a New Package of MeasuresAs well as injecting ?50 million to support businesses with recruitment, training and supplying IT equipment to handle customs declarations, the government intends to remove barriers for intermediaries taking on extra clients by adapting the rules around financial liability.Support Grant for Self-employed New ParentsSelf-employed parents whose trading profits dipped in 2018/19 because they took time out to have children will be able to claim for a payment under the self-employed income support scheme (SEISS). Further details of the change for self-employed parents will be set out by the start of July in published guidance.Find Help ToolTo support citizens who may be struggling and need support a new ‘Find Help ’ tool has been launched on GOV.UK. Those who use the tool will be signposted to information and support on a range of topics and help from government departments, local authorities and external partners. Understanding the Effect of COVID-19 on VeteransA new study to understand the effect of coronavirus on former service personnel has been launched. The work will collect data on loneliness, social support, alcohol consumption, mental health, gambling and general well-being. It will also explore the resilience of veterans and whether their experiences in the Armed Forces have actually better prepared them for the unprecedented circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic.Support for BusinessesA new code of practice has been developed with leaders from the retail, hospitality and property sectors to provide clarity for businesses when discussing rental payments and to encourage best practice so that all parties are supported. this is in an effort to prevent struggling companies from eviction over the summer.?Funding and InitiativesStop Loan SharksStop Loan Sharks Partners Update June 2020 ?- This newsletter provides an update on support for loan shark victims during COVID-19, Live Chat, POCA, Podcasts, Reporting App and much more.Support Package for Debt Advice Providers?37.8 million support package will be available to debt advice providers?so they can continue to provide essential services to help people who are struggling with their finances due to Coronavirus. The Money and Pensions Service will oversee the allocation of the funds?to charities and other money guidance services.Funding for Local Authorities to Assist those Struggling - EnglandAn additional ?63 million has been confirmed by government?to be distributed to local authorities in England to help those who are struggling to afford food and other essentials due to coronavirus.High Streets Task Force - EnglandThe High Streets Task Force will provide access to cutting-edge tools, including free access to online training programmes, webinars, data and intelligence for high streets across England as part of the government’s efforts to get shops back in business safely.Charities Benefit from Support for Rough Sleepers During Pandemic - England132 frontline charities supporting vulnerable rough sleepers will be able to continue their vital work, backed by ?6 million of government funding.Programmes to Stop Criminals ReoffendingUnpaid work and key programmes to stop criminals reoffending will be delivered by HM Prison and Probation Service from next June. The voluntary sector?will play an enhanced role. Charities and private sector organisations ?can compete for more than ?100 million pounds a year?to run services such as education, employment, accommodation and addiction treatment.Support for School LeaversA?one-off funding package worth ?7 million?will boost the support offered to 11,300 Year 11 pupils making the transition from secondary school into post-16 education, work, or training.
