Job Title: Education & Collections Manager Department/Location:Operations/Education Reports to: Director of OperationsFair Labor Standards Act Status (FLSA):Exempt, SalaryEmployment Status: Full time, 40 hoursRevision Date:June 2019JOB SUMMARYThe Education & Collections Manager is responsible for providing creative and strategic leadership to oversee all aspects of the education programs at Heritage Hill State Park. This position is also responsible for overseeing and ensuring that the interpretive program and other programs are historically accurate, valid and significant, and executed in a manner fitting of Heritage Hill’s mission and standards. This position oversees the design, training for, and implementation of the educational and interpretative programs. The education & collections manager of education also ensures Heritage Hill is serving as a resource to educators and conducts research to validate that appropriate programs are developed that meet educator needs. PRIMARY FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIESThe following are the primary/essential functions of the position and are not all-inclusive. Leadership: 85% of timeOversee the general operation of the department in accordance with the mission of Heritage Hill State Park and department goals, including education programming, archives, and artifact collections. Develop and monitor procedures pertaining to collections, from acquisition to deaccession. Design interactive displays, incorporate artifacts, and develop interpretative material for each historic building. Ensure archival records are organized and well maintained. Revise and build on current educational programs utilizing academic standards. Ensuring the standards for historical research have been set and are being achieved.Develop and maintain positive relationships with school districts and educators through attendance at expos, meetings, educational conferences and cold/warm calls.Prepare and oversee written manuals and related documents for educational programming.Initiate the development of specialty programs and partnerships with other organizations to bring new audiences and revenue streams into the park. Promote education programs in accordance with Heritage Hill’s Marketing and Master Plans in cooperation with the director of sales & marketing. Responsible for the mailing of necessary education programming material.Design annual training for educational and interpretation programs occurring on and off site.Promote and schedule attendance for Heritage Hill’s educational programming to local families, schools, organizations, and the community at large to increase attendance. Research past schools and day cares who no longer visit or have never visited Heritage Hill.Oversee the maintenance of mailing lists and databases utilized by the Education and Interpretation Departments. This includes but is not limited to public and private school lists, day care, summer camp, home school, and assisted living communities. Oversee the database of contact information for various audiences who use Heritage Hill’s educational programming.Oversee the equipment, interpretive clothing, supplies, and facilities used in the implementation of educational programs. Responsible for the scheduling interpreters for various programs. Responsible for greeting and check-in process for on-site educational programming.Develop online forms and registration forms for all programs.Implement and monitor a system that tracks schools’ feedback and assessment of programs.Oversee daily operations of educational programs including but not limited to discovery days, outreach, learning lab programs, school tours, home schools, history day camps and daycare camps.Oversee the equipment, supplies, and facilities used in the implementation of educational programs.Develop study guides and lesson plans for teachers. Oversee and maintain all aspects of the library; check in and check out books according to the Dewey Decimal system, add new books to research library as the Park acquires new materials. Manage, supervise, and train staff and volunteers in the education department as needed; assign projects and tasks as necessary and in line with general human resource rules and guidelines.Conduct annual employee evaluations and deal with disciplinary matters as necessary. Provide training, coaching and counseling to ensure that employee performance expectations are clearly communicated.This position requires a flexible work schedule, some evening, weekend, and holiday work will be required. Will be required to work as “staff in charge (SIC)”.Perform other duties as assigned.Financial Management: 15% of timeIn cooperation with the director of operations, develop and monitor the department’s budget. Responsible for the overall fiscal maintenance of the department.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Requires a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent related experience in education or museum studies and experience with historical research. One to two years of experience in the museum field or at a living history site and management experience is preferred. Strong written and verbal communication skills and be highly organized with great attention to detail.Must be proficient and knowledgeable in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher and Outlook.Must be able to spend a large amount of time outdoors and be able to walk, at times, one half mile without difficulty. Must feel comfortable wearing period clothing. Prolonged sitting and occasional high pressure and long hours due to seasonality of business.Ability to lift 25-30 pounds.Heritage Hill State Park is an equal opportunity employer ................
