EducationCity Road Trip

EducationCity Road Trip

Check your tire pressure, top off your tank, grab your cooler, and make your playlist because you're starting a journey to a new city...EDUCATIONCITY! Like any metropolis, the fastest way to learn your way around is with a road map. Use the road map below to navigate your way through EducationCity, and don't forget to stop at the roadside attractions. ROAD TRIP!

First Stop: Welcome to EducationCity!

Log in to EducationCity using your Login ID and Password. You will see the home page where the grades are listed alongside links to other features.

Second Stop: Adding Users

Proceed to the Teacher Area and go into User Management. Select Manage Teacher Details and enter your Feature Password. This is where you add individual teachers. Add at least 2 teachers.

Next, go back to User Management and select Manage Student Details. This is where you add individual students. Add at least 2 classes and 2 students to each class.

Roadside foodstand: Return to Manage Teacher Details and change one of your teacher's passwords. Can you change their Login ID? Also, change the passwords for students in one of your classes.

Third Stop: Topic Tools

Now that we have filled up our account with students and teachers, we can really start cruising! Start by going into 4th Grade, select Language Arts and then Topic Tools. Go into several Topic Tools and notice the features at the top. Next, create a Word Search and save it. Now, move onto other grade levels and subjects and browse through the different topics tools available.

No posted speed limit!: Now that you know how to save topic tools, select 2 different grade levels and create and save a Word Search in each. Next, in any grade level, create and save a Sentence Building topic tool. Is there a limit on the number of topic tools that can be saved at the school? If so, what are the limits?

Fourth Stop: Activities

Now that we know which Topic Tools are available, let's take a look at how teachers can select the appropriate followup activities to work on with their class. Choose a grade level, subject, Activities, and use Topic Search to find activities based on your desired criteria. After selecting an activity, click on the Standards Map at the bottom. Finally, complete an activity.

World's Largest Ball of Twine: Click on the green apple in the Standards Map, which signifies the Teacher Zone. What extra features are available? Does every activity have the same features in its Teacher Zone?

Neil Young marathon on the radio: Navigate through an activity in Whiteboard Mode and see how it is different. What are the benefits?

Fifth Stop: Tests

Now that you have completed practicing a topic with an activity, we can assess our knowledge with a Test. Once you go through the instructions, look at the different tools at the top that can be used on the test. Complete a test and get several questions incorrect, then save your score. What gets created?

Bathroom Break: Take a topic assigned as part of your Revision Pathway. Work on a revision activity. Once you have successfully completed the topic, click on it again. What happens?

Sixth Stop: PlayLive

Accelerate to PlayLive. Choose to compete against all players nationwide (remember to be nice and not beat the children you are playing against). What happens when you miss a question? What do the red hearts represent?

Mandatory Cracker Barrel stop: Are your scores saved when you use PlayLive?

Checkers on a barrel: Is there a way to disable PlayLive if the school does not want students to have access to it?

Seventh Stop: myCity

Now that we know more about which activities and tests are available, we can set up myCitys for our students. Go to the Teacher Area and Teacher Features. Create a new myCity folder and then create a myCity for each class. Make sure you activate a Revision Pathway in the myCity. Add activities and a test for each myCity, and vary the grade levels and subjects from which you choose. Set your myCity preferences differently in each of your myCitys.

Great Antiquing: Is there a limit to the number of folders a school can have in the myCity area?

Cheap Louis XIV armoire!: Make one of your myCitys invisible.

Eighth Stop: Success Tracker

As we merge onto Success Tracker, let's take a look at each report and see what they offer. Look at the information in each report and try to think of situations in which each report would be the best one to suggest to teachers.

Start with the Classwork report. Notice the different options that are available to the teacher. Notice the different ways the report can be sorted.

Next, let's take a look at the Homework report. Notice the different search options available. Do you notice any drilldown capabilities within this report?

Now let's move on to the Student Report. Notice the different colors and note what they mean within the report. This report has several drilldown options. Try each one to see all the information that can be accessed from this report. Next, is the Class Analysis report. Open this report and see an analysis of one of your classes. Take a look at the School Report. How would this overview benefit the school? Waffle House!: Delete an activity for one of your students while in the reports.

Ninth Stop: Annual Class Transfer

We know that every student must be enrolled in a class. So what happens at the end of the semester or the end of the year as students move to new classes? Teachers have the ability to transfer students to different classes. Go into the Teacher Area and User Management to Annual Class Transfer and transfer one of your students to a different class. What options are available during the transfer? Flat tire: Is there a way to select multiple students? Good-looking repair person!: What does the Reset All button do?

You have reached your final destination!

Great job! Now that you know your way around EducationCity, you are ready to be a tour guide for others.
