ADOPT AN ELEMENT

You will randomly select an element and investigate the topics below.

Part 1.

You will research your element and write the notes on the information sheet. Be sure to keep track of the websites you used and the dates you accessed them. Place your works cited page at the end of this section. This must be typed, alphabetized, and in the proper form. You must use at least 3 different references of which only 1 may be an encyclopedia.

PART II.

You will create a booklet about the element you have “adopted”. Your booklet should resemble a “Baby Book” or Family album. It might include items such as a picture of the element, data and place of “birth” or other vital statistics, friends or associates it “hangs around with”, important events it participated in, where it “lives”, special events it participated in, milestones, a poem or song written about it, etc. Use the information you have gathered and organize it into categories. Display this information creatively into the pages of the booklet. Each page should have its own theme and title.

This is the final product of your investigation. One third of your grade will be based on creativity. I will also be looking for accuracy, completeness, and variety. This segment is an in-school assignment.

PART III. –

You will design a T-shirt based on your adopted element and your knowledge of the Periodic Table. The fashion show is scheduled for Tuesday, October 18, 2011, in the RMS Amphitheater, during Science class. Use an old T-shirt. You do not need to buy a new shirt.
