ELEMENTARY VISUAL ART LESSON PLAN FORMAT

2014 - 2015

Please use the following format for the lesson plan you turn in for your observation as well as for the lesson(s) you present for Lesson Sharing. The observation lesson plan will be turned in as part of your formal evaluation paperwork at the end of the school year.

• Lesson title • Grade level(s)

• Medium/media used

• Objective(s)

• Your lesson objectives should, collectively, answer these questions:

• What should a student know/understand, at the end of this lesson?

• What should a student be able to do at the end of this lesson?

• Assuming they are applicable, your objectives should address the art element(s) that is/are the focus of the lesson as well

as the media skills and concepts addressed in this lesson.

• There should be a direct correlation between the objectives and the assessment components for this lesson.

• Vocabulary

• APS Visual Arts Standards Addressed and National Art Standards Addressed

• Please write out the standard/s & benchmark/s rather than just designating them by number.

• Resources Used

• Supplies, materials, tools and other resources needed for this lesson: art visuals, vocabulary lists or charts,

elements/principles posters, color wheel, samples of finished work, children’s literature used for the lesson, etc.

• Procedure

• Just outline the basic steps for the lesson.

• Be sure to include your closure activity or process. This applies even for the first part of a two-part lesson.

• Assessment

• Based on the lesson objectives:

• What are the criteria you will look for that will indicate a continuum of success for meeting the objectives for

this lesson?

• If you uses a rubric, are the criteria directly related to your lesson objectives? Is the language in your

descriptors objective and measureable?

• Modifications

• If you use this lesson for all grade levels, indicate how you modify the lesson and the assessment to make it age

appropriate for each grade level.

(This is especially important for Lesson Sharing).

• Address the modifications that you might make for special needs students, monolingual students, & behavior issues when/if

they occur (examples: preferential seating, multimodal instructions, sheltered instruction, variety of visual references,

adaptive art tools/materials, have students repeat instructions, & other modifications as appropriate).

• Cross-Curricular Extensions

• Please have a strong focus for math connections in your math lessons this year.

• Common Core State Standards Addressed

• Please write out the standard and write the grade level addressed.

• Please cite the sources used to develop this lesson March, 2013
