Arts in Education-Tana Weiss

School Year 2007-2008

Scope Of Chairmanship:

Promote the appreciation of cultural arts such as visual, performance and literature in our students.

Encourage the participation of students in various art programs offered at school.

Run National PTA Reflections fine arts contest

Goals of Chairmanship:

Offer the following four programs that would achieve the above scope: Reflections, Performing Arts, Masterpiece Art and a school-wide variety show.

Plans for Achieving Goals:

1) Reflections:

This is a program sponsored by the National PTA to encourage students to express their creative ideas on a specific theme through literature, musical composition, photography and visual arts, musical composition, and dance choreography

Strategy:

Promote participation of all grades K-5th through announcements in newsletter and art classes.

Recruit local judges who will decide which entries that will advance to the next level of judging.

Submit and monitor the entries that advance to next level of judging (council, and state).

Recognize all students and local judges for their participation in the program.

Present Ribbons for the 3 levels of recognition for the students

2) Performing Arts:

Schedule and host a live artistic performance at Alexander Elementary for the students in order to develop their appreciation for the performing arts, including, theater, dance, music, storytelling and cultural and ethnic events.

Strategy:

Preview performances offered by various theater and musical groups and individuals who offer entertainment appropriate for elementary age students. Coordinate efforts to compliment elementary curriculum, both in academics and the arts.

3) Masterpiece Art:

This program introduces students to some of the world’s great artists and their works.

Emphasis will be placed on the history of the artist, the style and the techniques used, and how they influenced or were influenced by their times.

Strategy:

Parent volunteers will present the artist and his/her work during art class under the guidance of the art teachers.

4) Rainbow of Stars:

Students will share their talents through performance in a school-wide variety show called “Rainbow of Stars”. Acts can include singers, musicians, dancers, gymnasts, dramatic and comedy skits, and any other talent suitable for entertainment at an elementary school.

Strategy:

Recruit judges in the local community.

Students will audition before the judges.

The judges in cooperation with the committee will select a variety of acts to perform.

Schedule student rehearsals.

Recognize all judges and student participants.

Budget - $150 for Reflections reception and ribbons

$400 for set decorations for Talent Show

$1000 for artist in residence fees

$2000 for art supplies for masterpiece art

$1500 for performing arts assemblies
