ACHIEVE YOUR BEST.COURSE DESCRIPTION:Probability and Statistics with Applications is a course in the basics of statistical methods that will prepare students to work with large amounts of data. Upon completion of the course students will be able to use mathematical models, design statistical experiments, organize and interpret data, and use data to predict and communicate the meaning of specific data. The broad objectives of this course are: Learning the language and core concepts of probability theory, understanding basic principles of statistical inference, knowing how to quantify the linear relationship between two variables, and make predictions from one to another, becoming an informed consumer of statistical information, and preparing for further coursework or on-the-job study.VIRTUAL and SCHOOL CLASSROOM EXPECTATIONS:Ignorance is no defense, so know the class rules, print, and keep this document in your binder.All MDCPS/TERRA policies and procedures are in effect in this classroom. Read TERRA website.Anticipate possible technical issues so login early, access your class in TEAMS to enter the virtual classroom using your full name. If you were not able to login, email me ASAP to have a record of it with time stamp!Always wear your TERRA uniform shirt and have your camera on during our live class. Be on time to class, take care of any personal or organizational issues before or after class. Use your full legal name to sign up for REMIND, instructions are posted on my website, OPENING OF SCHOOL page.Assignments submitted via TEAMS must be done as indicated to receive full credit. Follow directions, it is part of your assignment grade. If I can’t read it, I can’t grade it. See CODES on page 2 of this document. Phones must be silenced and put away in your book bags during class. NO TEXTING.Contribute respectfully to the work happening in the classroom. Encourage others.Always show work on assignments, and assessments to ensure credit. NWNC!! Can’t read, Can’t grade!!Use class time wisely. Stay on task, whether in group work or individual work.Be responsible for your own learning. You will have homework each night. Always ask questions and get help on material you do not understand or revisit our class notes. Please do not fall behind. It is difficult to catch up once you are behind. Math is sequential, one topic builds on another. Pay attention and take good notes.PUT FORTH SOLID EFFORT AND BE PROUD OF YOUR WORK AS IT IS AN EXTENSION OF YOURSELF.ATTENDANCE:Mathematics is a comprehensive subject in which daily participation is a requirement. Every student is expected to attend and participate in all class discussions. The District will automatically assign NC (no credit) to any student who accumulates ten (10) or more unexcused absences during the year. Please follow these guidelines:Students who are absent are responsible to get notes from another student or see me for further assistance. Homework may only be made up for credit if a student has an excused absence. Call attendance office if you are absent, contact Ms. Marisol Alegret. A student may make up a test or quiz (for excused absences only)COURSE MATERIALS:The following materials must be brought to school every day.Supplies:A 3-ring binder (1.5” with dividers) or a Notebook as described in power point.Paper.Graph paperScientific Calculator. If you own a graphing calculator leave it at home. We will be using graphing calculators in class from a class set.Pencils, erasers, rulers (straight edge), and highlighter.Online Textbook: Elementary Statistics-Picturing the World, 4th edition by Larson and Farber, Pearson Publishing. See registration directions on my website and download textbook file to your computerTUTORING:If you have ANY problems understanding the material covered in class, please see me immediately to arrange for extra help.ASSIGNMENTS:Students will be expected to check and record the correct assignment daily (posted on my website and on the classroom Assignment Board/Teams) and begin working on it as directed in class. Any unfinished portion will be considered homework. Textbook Assignments are submitted on the textbook platform, I will see your grade, do not submit in TEAMS. I will average 5 assignments at a time, and that grade will appear in MDCPS gradebook, it will be labeled as HW Pack 1, HW Pack 2, HW Pack 3, etc.Assignments must be submitted on time in the textbook platform. All work assigned must be attempted to get full credit. All work necessary to get the answer must be shown, neatly, step by step, preferably in pencil. Appropriate diagrams must be drawn. Please do NOT tell me that “you did it on another paper or in your head”!!!If you are absent, please get the assignment via my website/TEAMS. The assignment MUST be done/submitted for the next class. For example, if you miss a Monday class, you must have the assignment submitted BEFORE we meet on Wednesday. Late Assignments will NOT be accepted.When grading written assignments I will use these codes. Your grade may be lowered due to one of the following reasons:CODES: NEWS=Not Enough Work Shown C.P. = Copy Problem F.D= Follow directions given W? or NWNC= No Work, No Credit! I.N= Incomplete Notes G.P = use graph paper L.G = Label graphs, title, axes, etc.. as indicated in class. OOO = out of order. Pages and problems must be done/uploaded in order. LHC= LABEL HEADING CORRECTLY, NAME, PER, ASSIGN #, Section CA = Check Answers, you are responsible for asking questions if any. UAA= Upload Assignment Again. Can’t see it, Can’t grade it. Grade =0 until is done correctly.Students will be given assignments relevant to the topics covered in class; therefore, there should not be difficulties in completing them. However, I am available after school (prior appointment) for additional intervention. Furthermore, there is significant help online for completing assignments.
