Welcome to Wichita Habitat for Humanity!

If you are reading this, it is because we believe two things to be true about you: you are trustworthy and

you are or have the potential to be a leader. If Ive caught your attention with these assumptions, perhaps

you are interested in how we define these two loaded terms.

Trustworthy persons are those found to be competent in their line of work (skilled, knowledgeable and

open to learning), have excellent character (honest, forthright, reliable, respectful, communicative and

possessing a positive attitude), and are also perceived as benevolent (demonstrate good will and a

commitment to serve others).

Leaders, in the simplest sense, are those persons whom others choose to follow.

Looking at these two words together and reflecting on the most trustworthy leader I know, it could be said

that Jesus Christ is the model of trustworthy leadership. As an organization founded on Christian

principles, it makes sense that we all aspire, at the individual and organizational level, to continually grow

in our ability to demonstrate trustworthy leadership in all that we do.

I believe the work of a non\profit organization, particularly one with the world\wide name recognition

afforded Habitat for Humanity and its affiliates, dictates the need for trustworthy leaders. You see, we are

stewards of our communitys most precious resources: the time and talents of thousands of volunteers, the

money and materials offered by generous benefactors and the hopes and dreams of families aspiring to

greater strength, stability and self\reliance. Our role is to make the most effective and efficient investment

of these gifts for the purposes established by our mission while demonstrating the core values espoused by

our Christian faith.

Congratulations on your selection to represent one of the most successful non\profit ventures in the world.

I hope your time at Wichita Habitat for Humanity will become more like a calling than a job. Truly,

Gods work is in our handsanother great reason to hire only the best. Now that Ive told you what we

think of you, its your turn to prove us right!

If you are joining Wichita Habitat for Humanity in 2017, its good to have you with us. If youve been

around awhile, thanks for your continued commitment.

Executive Director

The Purpose of this Handbook

The Wichita Habitat for Humanity (Habitat) team has many non\paid members (also known as volunteers)

and a few paid members (also known as staff). This handbook is written for staff and serves two purposes:

1. To establish guidelines for our wage and benefit programs and

2. To outline our minimum expectations for your work performance

Since we cannot predict every situation that may occur, this handbook is not definitive and its contents are

subject to change. Please review the contents carefully and consider it a starting place for conversations

with your immediate supervisor when you have questions about your employment. Habitat is committed

to complying with State and Federal laws that govern the employee/employer relationship and will defer

to applicable legal standards as the minimum standard in our role as your employer.

Kansas is an employment at will state and as such, the employment relationship may be terminated with

or without cause and with or without notice by either party at any time. The hours, wages and working

conditions may also be changed at any time by Habitat. This handbook is not to be construed as an

employment contract.
