Aim: to complete as many passes as possible in succession. Student led dynamic streching.?Bounce the disc off your knee/thigh and catch it. 1 hand/2 hands/crocodile/high/low?Head drop. Balance disc on your head and place hands at waist height. Nod your head forward and catch. Do not trap the disc against your body Restart it!Throw in pairs for two minutes. If your drop the Frisbee, it is a re-start. Count the number of restarts. The pair with the least number of restarts wins.3 v 3 with Ultimate Frisbee.Self-Assessment fundamental skillsPeer Assessment Wheel for throwing and catchingTeacher Observation and questioning:1. How does the Frisbee feel to throw?2. Create five different ways to throw the Frisbee.3. How can you get the Frisbee to go higher/faster? ExtensionStudents create a video illustrating the skills of ultimate Frisbee-set a standard by showing examplesExplicit learning objectives shared on the whiteboardTraffic Lights self-assessment Oral questioning with differentiation and Blooms Taxonomy.Submit a ‘spirit of the game’ poster for the sports hall wallAll pupils will: be able to accurately catch the frisbee using the pancake catch when receiving an accurate pass. Most pupils will: be able to accurately backhand pass the frisbee and be able to consistantly catch the frisbee using the ‘pancake’ and/or ‘two handed’ technique. Some pupils will: be able to consistently catch the disc (passively/travelling) and also when to use the forehand correctly depending on the trajectory of the pass.Warm up criteria task cardBackhand criteria cardWarm-up: Student led -teacher to select a leader to independently organise and run a student warm-up. Warm up criteria task card-a ‘heart raiser’, ‘dynamic stretching’ and a ‘skill’ aspect of the warm-up and a highlighted a body part the student must ensure they concentrate on in detail (naming stretches/muscles/joints).?Waiter pose (High catch). Disc up in eye line resting on finger tips. Slight push up then flip hand over and make a high catch. One hand then the other. Try with the disc upside down too. Progression: One and two handed catches. Backhand PassPupils work in pairs:1. Highest passes in 60 seconds2. Beat your score-60 secs4 v 4 adapted gameScore in the endzone, keep possession and aim for the opposite endzone. Possession turns over if the Frisbee dropped/goes out.Collaboration and creativity for a sport specific warm upReview and reflect exit passesClass discussion on team with the best tactical awareness and whyAll pupils will: learn to use a forehand pass with increasing accuracy. Most pupils will: understand some of the specific techniques involved in making a forehand pass. Some pupils will: make the correct passing decision in a game situation, using both forehand and backhand accrurately.Forehand task card with QR codesBring your own device or use a school device.Warm up: ‘Disc Race’ Start off a race with two people and a disc. Their task is to pass the disc to each other up the pitch until they catch it in the endzone. When they have the disc they can’t move, so to move up the pitch they have to pass it to each other. To ensure they learn to value possession, if the disc is dropped or hits the ground they have to start again. Let them find and learn the best distance to stand apart that works for them. ?Flip (Low catch). Disc held in front of body, fingers below disc. Flip disc towards self and catch in same position. Add more flips. Catch with same hand, or other hand, or two hands. Flip away from body. The millionaire euro pair!’Work in pairsEach throw = 1 million euro, first pair to get 10 million wins! All pairs have 10 million. Throw the Frisbee. If they drop the Frisbee they lose 1 million euro. Sit down when all their money is gone. Last pair standing wins. Extension: non-dominant hand / stand on one leg.‘Piggy in the middle!’If it is intercepted the person gets a point and swops with the person who threw the Frisbee.Goaltimate: 4v4 game of goaltimate. Same rules as ultimate frisbee, but the aim is to throw the frisbee into a goal (football, hockey goal, backetball backboard). Peers to use ‘forehand pass resource sheet’ to assess partner’s performance and provide constructive feedback. Use of QR code to see model technique. All pupils will: pivot more effectively when making a pass. Most pupils will: use pivoting in practice and in small sided gamesSome pupils will: pivot around markers effectively to execute passes in game situations.Game Makers! Task card with the success criteria for creating a game2 medals and a step forward task card.Warm up- Goaltimate: Students create 4v4 game.Introduce the notion of ‘man marking’ which will lead on to the need to pivot.Pivoting: teacher to explain and demonstrate key teaching points of pivoting. Open and closed.?Spin. Disc held with thumb near picture, fingers underneath. Disc vertical, spin up to self. Small spin, it’s not about height.Activity: In groups of 3, one passing player, one receiver and one marker. Marker stands directly in front of the passing player. The passing player has to pivot to one side or the other to make a 5-10m pass. Each player to change role. Extension: Passing player to practice a ‘fake’, with the aim to put a potential marker off balance.Pivot Square Drill: 4 cones in a square, 4 attackers on each cone and 3/4 defenders in the middle. Attackers are allowed to move one step away from their cone to pass through the square to another attacker. Defender/attacker swap went failed pass/intercepted.Teacher led Q&A: group discussion into basic forehand pass technique. Recap ‘key points’ (Stance, Grip, Spin). Students to think of 2 key things they feel they have learnt this lesson Brief discussion of problems they encountered when making decisions in the game regarding rules.Game Makers! Task card in groups.Marker to use 2 medals and step forward to assess their pivotsStudents complete the Triangle of Learning in pairs as an exit passAll pupils will: ‘cut’ effectively in order to move into space to receive a pass. Most pupils will: use change of direction to make effective cuts, and continue to run onto the disc. Some pupils will: show an increasing awareness of the space available in a game, and make sharp cuts to move into this space.Performance analysis task cardWarm up criteria task cardWatch Video footage from YouTube link and model good practice from high level ultimate game. Analyse performance refering to cutting, stacking, forcing, marking, pivot, fakes etc. Student led Warm-up with criteria task card.Goaltimate: 4v4 game of goaltimate. Same rules as ultimate frisbee, but the aim is to throw the frisbee into a goal (football, hockey goal etc.). Introduce the notion of ‘man marking’.Diamond cutting drill: In a diamond, 2 lines of students on opposite corners. First student in each line to make a diagonal cut from their line with 2nd student in each group passing to student 1. Perform the drill in three stages: 1. Backhand pass only. 2. Forehand pass only. 3. Choice of pass.Tactical discussion, using examples to plan correct cuts. In small groups of 3 or 4 with teacher supporting discussion, extending questioning. Groups to feedback to class about why they choose that cut.Game situation: students to put into practice all the basic skills and understand of Ultimate Frisbee. Three teams, 2x playing, the other acting as coaches to provide feedback to performing students. Explain how cutting fits into the overall scheme, and how next lesson, an offensive structure of ‘stacking’ will be introduced.Performance analysis assessmentReflect and review exit passAll pupils will: Understand the principle of stacking on offense, and use this formation in game situations. Most pupils will: Understand the basic principle behind stacking, and be part of this formation in game situations. Some pupils will: Fully understand the principle of stacking and communicate well with team-mates, advising them how to effectively cut from a stack and clear out.Passing race: Students to complete 10/20 passes in pairs as quickly as possible over 5-10m. Students to start again when dropped/incomplete pass they have to run to the centre and take a sort card. When all the sort cards are taken, the pair come together and sort them into backhand and forehand criteria, resume throwing. After, stress the importance to taking time, controlling the throws. Recap marker (open/close) and introduce stacking. Use of practical example to show why a team may stack. Show the difference between a random arrangement of players and a stacking – more space etc.Stacking: Three phases, groups to work through in own time. Phase 1 – set up a stack with a forcing marker on the passer. Make cuts to the open side and complete each pass.Phase 2 – Same as phase 1, but passer does not make every pass to the cutter. Therefore cutter needs to ‘clear-out’ and re-join the stack when not passed too.Phase 3 – Same as phase 2 and work way down the playing field to complete a score. Re-setting stack everytime. Only 10 seconds between catching and releasing disc – therefore stack needs to be reformed within 10 seconds. 2nd cut drill: passer to first cutter, who then moves the frisbee onto the last cutter.Three teams, 2x playing, the other acting as coaches to provide feedback to performing students. Explain how cutting fits into the overall scheme, and how next lesson, an offensive structure of ‘stacking’ will be introduced.Post match interviews in pairs, analysis performance, feeling towards th game/rules etc.Triangle of learning in pairsJCPE self-assessment tick sheetAll pupils will: mark on the correct side depending on the force, and show an increasing understanding of this defensive structure. Most pupils will: develop some understanding of defensive structure and marking in a game. Some pupils will: understand the principles of forcing, use this tactic in game situations and instruct and advise ohers.Warm up success criteria task card – Action for Life resourceCreate a warm up game: success criteria task card. What components of fitness are involved when playing ultimate Frisbee? Demonstrate technique of effective forcing of the marker. Explain how this produces ‘open side’ and the ‘closed side’. Marking: in groups of 5, a passer, marker and three to create a stack to cut to the open/closed side. Aim is for the marker to stop/block the closed side passes.5v5 mini games encouraging pupils to demonstrate where marker should be in certain situations. During gameplay, questions players about appropriate marking positions. Game situation: students to put into practice all the basic skills and understand of Ultimate Frisbee. Three teams, 2x playing, the other acting as coaches to provide feedback to performing students. Students to plan and discuss tactics before, at half time and after the game. Some pupils to measure biological responses using HR monitorsComponents of fitness HW sheet. All pupils will: execute longer passes with increasing accuracy and control. Most pupils will: begin to understand the techniques of throwing a longer pass, and throw longer passes with some accuracy and control. Some pupils will: Make good passing decisions in a game situation, appreciating good opportunities for a longer pass and executing these passes well.Peer assessment task cardTeacher led Q&A: Recap of last lesson. Key words/points: Stance, Grip, Spin. Components of fitness in Ultimate Frisbee recap and sort cards. Goaltimate: 4v4 game of goaltimate. Same rules as ultimate frisbee, but the aim is to throw the frisbee into a goal (football, hockey goal, backboards) Introduce the notion of ‘man marking’.Longer Passing (HUCK) : Explain the key teaching points for a longer backhand pass, and demonstrate (Stance, Grip, Spin, Fixed plane, Step into pass). In pairs, students to stand 15m apart, and with success they gradually move further apart (up to 40m). Longer passing and Cutting: in groups of 6 (3 passers, 3 receivers), receiver (20-40m away) to cut towards passer at an angle, and then cut away to receive a long pass. Timing of pass important, passer to judge the speed of the runner to release disc at correct weight. Pupils to evaluate their own and others performance.Students to plan and promote an upcoming tournament –SPORT EDUCATION MODEL. Game situation: students to put into practice all the basic skills and understand of Ultimate Frisbee. Four teams, round robin. Students to plan and discuss tactics before, at half time and after the game. Some pupils to measure biological responses using HR monitors.Share learning objectives.Peer Assessment for the Huck PassExtensionPrepare for a student presentation on the components of fitness in Ultimate frisbeeAll pupils will: participate in a 7v7 game, using an appropriate structure of stacking and cutting when on offence, and forcing and marking correctly on defence. Most pupils will: participate in a 7v7 game, demonstrating a basic understanding of appropriate structure of stacking and cutting when on offence, and forcing and marking correctly on defence. Some pupils will: participate in a 7v7 game, demonstrating an excellent understandinf of appropriate structure of stacking and cutting when on offense, and forcing and marking correctly on defence. Integrating more complex principles of offense and defence in their play.Teacher led Q&A: group discussion into basic forehand pass technique. Recap ‘key points’ (Stance, Grip, Spin). Students to think of 2 key things they feel they have learnt this lesson (regarding technique, rules, playing etc).
