A general understanding of dietary requirements is important but if you want to compete at the highest level the diet needs to be specific, not only to the sport you compete in, but also to the position you play or the event you compete in. A personalised diet plan is required and should reflect the client’s personal requirements as well as the point in the season they are in e.g. pre season, post season or competition phase. Good dietary planning forms part of the cycle in achieving results. Also for your general health client a personalised six week health related physical activity programme should be implemented this is to enable the client to live a healthy lifestyle Scenario – The club’s Nutritionist and Physical Activity Advisor wants to work with you and one of the U17 athletes who is on the verge of turning professional to put together a diet and hydration plan which will help improve performance. Also they want you to continue working with your health client and help them work independently by planning a six week health related exercise programme that they can use and benefit themselves for the future. Accompanying your plan, I would like you to describe the components of your diet and hydration and at the end explain and justify your diet so we can then have a discussion of areas you may need to adapt. For the health client it is important that you send me the six week health related physical activity plan that I can pass on to the client before they move house.
