JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Bar and Café Supervisor

Reports to: Bar Duty Manager, Bars Assistant Manager,

Bars Manager

Job Purpose:

• To deliver excellent service to customers and maximise bars income at events

• To effectively supervise, direct and motivate the bar staff

• To present a positive image of the organisation by being polite, friendly and helpful to all visitors.

• To assist with Cash control and maintaining stock levels during events

Bar Supervisors who work for Brighton Dome and Festival Limited (BDFL) are an integral part of the front of house operation,

Bar Supervisors are specifically responsible for delivering event-based bar and cafe service by setting up and supervising the bars during events, dealing with a wide range of customers and functions. Shift patterns will vary.

Principal Accountabilities:

Events:

1. To set up bars and cafe for events ensuring that staff and stock are organised for cost effective and efficient service

2. Ensure that licensing objectives are upheld

3. Maintaining a smart appearance, following uniform regulations.

4. Establishing customer requirements and dispensing beverages/ snacks promptly and efficiently, in a hygienic and attractive way.

5. Informing customers of additional bar services such as interval drink ordering, promotions, resolving minor queries and customer complaints.

6. To have thorough product knowledge to ensure customers are helped with their order.

7. To ensure that beverages are served to the correct specification i.e. that the correct measures are observed and the correct glass is used.

8. To follow the correct opening and closing procedures for each bar area and to assist the Duty Manager in delegating jobs.

9. When required, to be in charge of the bar at management request. Ensuring codes of practice are followed.

10. To ensure that adequate stock and equipment is available before and during service.

11. To ensure the security of stock and equipment at all times.

12. Cash handling, counting floats and using tills responsibly.

13. To uphold company policies regarding Drugs and Alcohol at work, staff drinks and wastage.

14. To be fully aware of the company and personal responsibilities with regards to licensing legislation.

15. Cleaning/ tidying of bar and catering areas, including the kitchen, café counter, cellar and dry stores.

16. Ensuring appropriate use of radios and ancillary equipment.

17. Reporting maintenance issues through the correct channels.

18. Assisting in staff training

19. Assisting with delegation of breaks.

Person Specification: Bar Supervisor

A confident and experienced individual with excellent customer service skills and experience of bars, including cash and stock control procedures.

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA

• good numeracy skills

• substantial relevant experience to include: bar work and working in a customer oriented environment

• good understanding of cellar and stock management

• awareness of licencing laws and regulations

• staff training and delegation experience

Work related experience:

• experience in a supervisory role

• confident in communicating with a wide variety of people

• proven ability to deliver excellent service to customers

• experience with cash handling and till reconciliation

• bars product knowledge and experience with sales to large numbers

Disposition:

• flexible attitude and willingness to work as part of a team

• ability to work well under pressure in a busy environment

• ability to use initiative

• willingness to work evenings and weekends as required

• an ability and enthusiastic willingness to represent the organisation’s best interests at all times

DESIRABLE CRITERIA

• Barista experience

• Events service in a venue environment such as weddings & conferences

• A broad knowledge of and enthusiasm for the arts and entertainment

• Awareness/ experience of the Equalities Act

OUTLINE TERMS AND CONDITIONS - Casual

Hours: zero hours basis, no guaranteed hours
