Strathcarron Hospice is an independent hospice, founded in 1981, and is one of the largest palliative in-patient units in Scotland. It is located in the Scottish Central Belt, serving a population of nearly 400,000 in both urban and rural settings across NHS Forth Valley and the Cumbernauld and Kilsyth areas of NHS North Lanarkshire.

We have an exciting new position for a Communications Manager at Strathcarron Hospice. In this role you will develop communications and branding across all of the Hospice and our Subsidiaries.

You will be an enthusiastic, team player with experience of leading successful communications using a mix of traditional and digital marketing and PR activities. You will have a proven track record in communications with the ability to raise the profile of the Hospice and improve the public’s understanding of what we do.

Essentially for this role you will require strong planning and organisational skills, including the ability to work under own your initiative and balance competing demands.

You will have excellent written and verbal communication skills.

You can confidently engage with range of people, including a proven ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders.

|The purpose of the Communications Manager’s role is to work collaboratively with the Chief Executive to proactively support the development and the delivery|

|of the aims and objectives of Strathcarron Hospice. The post holder will raise the profile of the Hospice through both traditional and digital marketing and|

|PR activities, and will promote our services and enhance the success of fundraising initiatives. |

|To identify compelling and innovative PR stories that raise the profile of the Hospice, achieving maximum media coverage. |

|To support the clinical teams to maximise referrals to Hospice services and to work alongside all non clinical departments to maximise PR and marketing |

|opportunites. To contribute to the design and production of promotional literature for all Hospice departments, ensuring it is in line with agreed brand |

|guidelines. |

|To agree the detail of all PR and marketing and fundraising campaigns, including budgets and costings and set in place adequate controls to monitor |

|progress. |

|To promote good communication between all departments of the Hospice to promote and encourage involvement in PR and marketing activities. |

|To support the fundraising team to identify PR and marketing opportunities around fundraising initiatives. |

|To coordinate the production and announcement of all press releases for the Hospice, acting as the first point of call for all media enquiries, identifying |

|where senior management involvement is required and responding to requests for journalists quickly and accurately to ensure the maximisation of every |

|opportunity. To identify, organise and secure participation at press launches. |

|To regularly secure editorial space, digital and printed, promoting the variety of fundraising activities and Hospice services in local, regional and |

|national media, trade press and other relevant publications and channels. |

|To identify and establish new sources of media and develop ongoing relationships with existing media contacts and local and national journalists to |

|maximise PR and marketing opportunities. |

|To be responsible for the overall accuracy of content on the Hospice website and intranet empowering other departments to maintain accurate and up to date |

|information. To project manage developments in relation to website and social media platforms |

|To evaluate and develop the use of digital and social media as a platform to raise profile and income |

|To stay abreast of the latest developments, best practice and learning across the sector so that this can be incorporated into all Hospice materials and |

|activities |

|To manage the production and delivery of the Hospice newsletters liaising with appropriate departments and agencies |

|To allocate tasks and provide direction for volunteers involved in PR and marketing campaigns and activities. |

|To identify and secure media sponsorship for appropriate PR and marketing initiatives where possible. |

|To work creatively and innovatively maximising media support across a range of activities. |

STRATHCARRON HOSPICE

Terms and Conditions: The terms and conditions of service are those laid down in line with the Agenda for Change Handbook.

Location: Strathcarron Hospice.

Salary Scale: Band 7 - £39,693 - £46,467 per annum.

Staff taking up a new appointment with Strathcarron Hospice will normally enter the scale at the minimum of the pay band/range. Any appointment above the lowest point of the pay band/range will be subject to verification of previous NHS/Hospice services or experience outside the NHS/Hospice, which is given in recognition of relevant complete years of experience.

Hours: Full Time 37.5 hours per week

Employees may be required to vary the pattern of their working week subject to the exigencies of the service.

Duration: Permanent.

Annual Leave: 27 days rising to 29 days after 5 years service and to 33 days after 10 years service plus 8 public holidays (pro rata).

Or

202.5 hours rising to 217.5 hours after 5 years service and to 247.5 hours after 10 years service plus 60 hours public holiday (pro-rata)

Sick Leave & Pay: In accordance with Strathcarron Hospice provisions

Superannuation: This post is superannuable under The Falkirk Council Local Government Superannuation Scheme and your remuneration will be subject to deduction unless you choose to opt out of the scheme.

Right to work in the UK:

Strathcarron Hospice has an obligation to ensure it does not employ any worker who has not been granted the relevant permission to work in the UK. This permission is without exception granted by the UK Border Agency.
