Service Description
Job Title: Whizz-Kidz Facilitator
Responsible to: Service Delivery Manager
Location: North England
Hours: As and when required (Zero Hours Contract)
Date: April 2021
Service Purpose:
To lead, facilitate and ensure full participation of young disabled people at Whizz-Kidz Clubs and Wheelchair Skills Training schemes in a number of areas as defined by Whizz-Kidz.
The post holder will take responsibility for the young people at the event and ensure processes and procedures relating to safety and safeguarding are followed. The role also includes ensuring Volunteers are supported and empowered to co-deliver services.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Planning
When delivering a Whizz-Kidz Club or Wheelchair Skills Training scheme:
1.1 Liaise with the Whizz-Kidz Services Delivery Manager to ensure familiarity with the content and plans for each session, and are informed in advance about young people’s care and medical needs on the day, have details of volunteers, care assistants (if applicable), school staff (if applicable) attending and venue information including contact names and access arrangements.
2. Use the risk assessment provided by Whizz-Kidz to ensure confidence in briefing other staff / volunteers, continually updating each risk assessment where necessary.
3. Adhere to relevant Whizz-Kidz policies and procedures regarding safeguarding, data protection and confidentiality, risk management, health and safety, incident reporting and working with volunteers when facilitating events for young disabled people. Ensure that all healthcare staff, volunteers and Young Leaders are fully briefed and working within these guidelines and policies.
4. Liaise with the Whizz-Kidz Services Delivery Managers to ensure sufficient resources and equipment for services, highlighting any discrepancies.
5. Attend training days and events with Whizz-Kidz staff and volunteers to continually develop relevant skills and competencies to effectively deliver Whizz-Kidz’s Young People’s Services.
1.7. Ensure awareness and understanding of individual needs documented in young people’s registration forms and other relevant paperwork in advance of each service being delivered.
2. Implementation
When delivering a service:
2.1 Welcome and register young people as they arrive and liaise with carers/family members to ensure transport arrangements are in place for the end of the day (if parents are not staying), and that emergency contact details and care plans are up to date.
2.2. Supervise and support Volunteers at events
2.3 Manage and engage all external content providers who attend the events and engage with young people. Ensure they are delivering effectively and appropriately and ensure they receive a full pre-event briefing and de-brief.
2.3. Lead Volunteers and Healthcare Assistants (HCAs) throughout the day to deliver all planned activities in a safe and positive way, working in line with policies and procedures to ensure maximum participation.
2.4. Brief Volunteers and HCAs on arrival to ensure they are familiar with the plans, aware of young people’s care needs, and that they adhere to Whizz-Kidz’s ethos and policies concerning involvement of young disabled people.
2.5. Report any incidents, complaints or compliments according to Whizz-Kidz’s policies and procedures.
2.6. Facilitate a debrief at the end of each session for all team members.
2.7. Promote other Whizz-Kidz services to the young people to facilitate pathways for greater involvement.
2.8. Represent Whizz-Kidz professionally to a range of external people, including partner organisations, funders and visitors.
3. Monitoring and Reporting
3.1. Ensure feedback and monitoring data from young people, Volunteers, Healthcare Assistants, content providers and/ or carers is collected at each event.
3.2. Monitor the ‘distance travelled’ of each service user, as and when appropriate
4. Other
4.1. At all times acting as an ambassador for Whizz-Kidz, including promoting Whizz-Kidz’s services and maintaining the Whizz-Kidz ethos.
4.2. Consistently maintaining and upholding professional boundaries when working with children, young people and vulnerable adults.
4.3. When required, to carry out any other tasks within the scope of the role to meet the needs of the Young People’s Services Team and the charity, as directed by Whizz-Kidz staff members.

• The post holder must accept responsibility for ensuring that the policies and procedures relating to Health & Safety in the workplace are adhered to at all times.
• The post holder must respect the confidentiality of data stored electronically and by other means in line with the Data Protection Act.
• The post holder will not disclose to an unauthorised person any confidential information acquired through official duties unless they have received official permission to do so.
