Sample Paragraph for your Paper Topic Proposal
GRAD CORE: Sample Paragraph for your Paper Topic Proposal + Rubric
In case you'd like a rough idea of what I'm looking for regarding the paragraph that's due Friday evening, here is what I had to submit to the teacher for the grad certificate class in Conflict Resolution that I took. Email Jane your paper proposal as a Word document attached to an email. Send it no later than 9 PM Fri, Oct 29.
This is what I submitted to my grad certificate prof for my topic proposal:
For my final paper, I would like to analyze the parking conflict in Chantilly between the Pleasant Valley neighborhood and the Hindu temple. To be upfront, I live in the P.V. neighborhood, but my house is far from the affected area so my husband and I don't have strong views one way or the other about it. In fact, we suspect there is underlying prejudice involved on the part of the homeowners who live near the entrance closest to the temple. We've been following with interest the articles in the neighborhood newsletter, but I'd like to learn more about it, especially from the Hindu believers’ side too. They have some info posted on their website, for starters, and I know there have been newspaper articles about it as well as an online blog (I know that's not a scholarly resource though).

(This is my professor’s response.)
The conflict you name sounds like a good case study. And in this instance blogs, newsletters, interviews and articles are good sources because what you are seeking is how people are thinking and feeling and behaving within the conflict. The scholarly sources can be the theories, frameworks and concepts used to help analyze and provide different angles to understanding the conflict. Parking, at Mason or in a neighborhood, is often a deceptively complex issue!
