NOTES:

1. Reporting cycles. Students should be aware that there are two critical times for completion of set work. The first will occur at the end of Week 6 of Term 3, when “Profile” reports will be generated. These will be presented to students (and parents!) for discussion during week 9, in Homestead. At this time, students will receive grades for work on 1 Folio piece and 1 text response piece (The Classic persuasive essay) and the Issues preparatory work. At the second cycle – Week 6 of Term 4 – students should have completed all the assessable course work. Graded work includes: Text responses (on the film and the Classic); 2 Folio pieces; an Issue response; and Oral work (including the Classic oral).

2. The CLASSIC text reading assignment should be started (the reading section, at least, if at all possible) during the holidays between Semester 1 and 2. You simply won’t have time to do this reading AND the assignment during third term. Note that there will be a new BOTM task over the last half of Term 3.

3. The film text will be chosen later in Term 3, from a list of suggestions. It will be viewed and studied early in Term 4. The assignment will be handed out at that time. The central task for assessment will be a timed expository essay, completed in class.

[1] BOTM = “Book of the month”. As for Semester 1, the format will be a short oral presentation detailing a bare-bones outline of the story; brief information about the characters; a personal assessment or response and information about its availability.

[2] “Polished” means that the piece shall have been drafted, and crafted. That is, subjected to a process of improvement and re-focusing to ensure that the quality of presentation as well as the grammatical and other writing skills reach the highest standard possible.
